The study was open label and only included 24 people, but the results were quite impressive. Let's hope further studies help confirm the results and show this was not just a placebo effect:

pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/345...

For those who do not recognize the name Nicotinamide Riboside is the formal name for Niagen. Niagen is a form of vitamin B3, but it is very different from Niacin. One should not confuse Niacin with Niagen. They do not act the same way in the body.

Along similar lines there is also another animal study showing the potential of Niagen for SCA. This time in SCA7:

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl...

Again, let's hope researchers translate this into human trials soon.

Interesting to think about that news in combination with the news from last year regarding trehalose. Unfortunately both studies use fairly large amounts, 25mg/kg of Niagen and 100g of trehalose. It would be nice to see some longterm and placebo controlled studies to be certain there was no harm and this isn't all just Placebo Effect.
