Slurred speech

If like me you suffer from slurred speech (dysarthria) I recommend down loading and practicing the tongue twisters from the following site.

davidpbrown.co.uk

You don’t need to do them all each day but 2 or 3 pages every day or so really helps me to speak a bit more fluently.

I've had a look at them - they are hard!! Even my partner who doesn't have Ataxia found them difficult. I recently took part in the speech therapy study with Strathclyde University & Ataxia UK so have been doing some speech exercises as part of that so will add some of these to them, thank-you!

I think the secret is not to try and say them too quickly. The emphasis is to say them slowly but accurately. Good luck.

That's what the speech therapy study has taught me too. Say each word slowly to ensure you speak clearly and are understood.

I need to remember to speak more slowly..the trouble is, I try to get the words out before my thought process gives up 🙄

I have the same problem! My mind goes much faster than I can articulate. In my working life I always had jobs which involved communication (teacher, social worker) so not to be able to fluently express myself is so frustrating.

🤔I find I’m ok when replying to posts because I don’t have to speak, but. if I have to engage in a conversation it’s a whole different ballgame.. I feel tongue-tied, it’s so embarrassing. And, when all eyes are on you for a reply ..😶

Hi Maja, ask David about me - Heather - from the group! I was going to suggest them as something we could try at one of our on-line meetings!!

That is so cool - what a great idea! I've never heard of doing that. Thanks so much, Libra7.
