Speech with Ataxia
Hi Hotrods, I believe you can loose your speech, mine at times is very slow and slurred, I was told by a speech therapist to read a book out loud, do not sing or cough. Take care.
Hi Hotrods
I'm not sure you lose the ability to speak, but my speech is getting more and more slurred, although it sounds perfect to me! It is particularly bad on the 'phone, which is one of the main reasons that I had to give up work. Speech therapy certainly helps, and Jacqui's advice is helpful.
I lost the ability a few years ago, and its got worse since. I have to think what I am going to say first, and by the time I do speak, the moment has gone. Joining in normal conversation and talking on the phone is NOT easy. I got easily embarrassed before, and get more so now. The people who are closest to me understand the situation. Just to note, the speech therapist was as much use as a wet paper bag, gave no advice and said as I read and answered her questions OK (as far as she was concerned) just said see you next year probably
NO,OFCOURSE YOU DON'T.JUST EXERCISE YOUR MOUTH AND TONGUE MUSCLES DAILY(BY MOVING THEM UP AND DOWN AND SIDE TO SIDE).I DO THESE ABOUT 4/5 TIMES A DAY..
