I'm New Here. Telephone assessment for Pip, the professional said I held the phone to my ear for about an hour. I have been diagnosed with ataxia and I have weak Arms I think that would be some kind of record even for a fit person. is she allowed to say this even though she can't even see me .I failed my application because of this. any thoughts anyone?

Pip assessment by telephone
😶 I haven’t applied for PIP, but plenty of others here have, and there have been a mixed bag of comments 😉
🤔 It might be worthwhile asking for an appointment at your local Citizens Advice Bureaux, and making an appeal
I failed mine because I stood up holding on to the table to steady myself so as far as they were concerned I could stand ok. I’m appealing. I believe that at least they need to acknowledge I have problems!
What a load of crap, these so called ‘health professionals’ just lie blatantly. I’ve no doubt there is some veiled directive from the government, to save them money. I’ll stop because I get so annoyed by it all.
Basically, appeals are normally successful, so appeal, it’ll probably take time but I’m sure it will be worth it. (I’ve no doubt you were on speaker phone, weren’t you)
The private companies that carry out assessments for the DWP are trained to let a few people through as possible. They twist everything to try and deny disabled people what they need. Approach all interactions as if you are meeting with the Gestapo! On a more helpful note, as others have said definitely appeal. Fightback 4 Justice are a brilliant organisation that will help you with your case. You can find them at: fightback4justice.co.uk
I would also urge all Pip claimants to record the assessment. There are rules you have to follow which the dwp will advise you about but it’s worth it because it’s quite clear to see where the assessor has twisted what you say.
Solidarity!
Thats awful, get in touch with citizens advice, also appeal and you may have to tell a liitle fib, say you were not holding the phone-it was on loud speaker, took me over 2 years, my arms are fine, but my legs are no good, because I could put my arms above my head they said I didnt qualify, so I appealed, am now in a wheelchair. I have sca2.
Do not give up, yes it is upsetting, so much is unknown to these so called proffesionals, good luck
Hi mate
The professional will look at your ability to carry out a range of daily living and mobility activities and the ability to hold a phone is not one of them.
The professional does not make the decision whether you get payment that’s made by the DWP based on the report.
If he/she has told you that you have failed because of this she/he is on a different planet.
Ask for a copy of the report then seek professional advice.
Good Luck.
Hi, I agree with everyone comments. Do you have a disabled association where you live. The cab told me to go to had - Harrow association for disabled . good luck
