Apologies in advance to those squeamish...

I’m doing my homework in advance of an appointment at the Bowel and Bladder clinic where I was (reluctantly) referred for urinary incontinence. I’ve suffered with stress incontinence for some time despite being regular with pelvic floor exercises since pregnancy, this is the reason the physio thought its time to do something about it. Thing is, my neurologist gave the impression that urge incontinence (the sudden urge to pee, and not always making it) is related to ataxia - and can be treated with pharmacological agents - but that stress incontince is not. I suspect I experience a combination of both, but I also suspect that stress incontince CAN be related to ataxia, because my (pretty strong) pelvic floor muscles don’t react quickly enough to do what they need to, in the same way my leg muscles don’t always causing a stumble. I’ve looked at the stuff published by ataxia UK on bladder problems (largely technical, symptomatic treatments) but nothing on this specific question. Any thoughts?

Dear MaryRH, I had TVT surgery several years ago for urinary incontinence due to ataxia. I'm about 90% better. I've had two children (grown now), but really only started having problems after being diagnosed with ataxia. Look TVT surgery up on the net. It worked great for me and I've never looked back! My best to you..., ;o)

Good morning. No squeamishness here! 3 kids, I sneeze, I pee. I never made a correlation with ataxia. Interesting. I’m sorry for your troubles. The incontinence I’ve experienced hasn’t been a huge issue for me. Full disclosure, I can’t drive anymore (seizures) so I don’t leave the house. Access to the washroom is instantly available. Good luck!

Yep poor Beth's been complaining of this and she's had no kids. TBH it's v slight, but she doesn't like it, and it is a new symptom. I spoke to neurologist about it and she said to limit caffeine ( as it increases urge) and go regularly.

Get onto bladder and bowel training specialists, worked well for me.

Easy trick if urge to pee. Press point just below nose and above lip, 15 secs is enough.

Will relieve urge to pee. It is a pressure point
