As you may have seen in the Ataxia Magazine and e-news, we have commissioned independent research into the financial circumstances of people with ataxia across the UK.

The results from the research will help us think about our priorities for services and potential partnership developments going forward across the UK, and in particularly whether we should look to partner with Scottish Huntington’s Association’s Financial Inclusion Service across Scotland to provide people with financial advice.

Nick Hopkins is an independent researcher who is carrying out the work on our behalf. He has extensive experience of interviewing people with long term conditions, including about the financial issues they face, and he’s developed that further over the course of the work he’s already done on this project.

He’s now looking for a few more people to be interviewed as part of the research, particularly from Scotland.

You can arrange to be interviewed over the phone, by answering emailed questions, or online. Over the phone, it will take about half an hour.

All the interviews will be confidential; your name will not appear in the final report, nor will any details that could be used to identify you.

During the interview you may indicate that you do not wish to respond to specific questions, and you will be able to suspend or terminate the interview at any time. You will also be able to access communication support for the interview if needed.

If you’d be prepared to speak to Nick you can arrange to do so by calling him directly on 07891 600078, or emailing at nick@nhhrconsulting.co.uk

It’s great that this research is being done, to help people with long term conditions, facing financial problems, etc. This shows the caring involved with helping, where there is a need. I live in the USA, and, with rising costs, if people don’t immediately have money to pay, for needed medical services, nowadays, they may be out of luck. Caring and empathy, seemingly, is reserved for those lucky enough to have enough money to go around!
