Hi all, Is there anyone who can tell me how to get on the mobility scheme if you are retired and not in receipt of the benefits they say you should be in receipt of.
Mobility Scheme : Hi all, Is there anyone who can... - Ataxia UK
Mobility Scheme
You can apply for Attendance Allowance, which is not means-tested. Ask the CAB for advice and assistance, or perhaps Age UK can help. They have a specific leaflet re Attendance Allowance with further info.
The motability scheme is an independent charity & nothing to do with the government or benefit offices.
You can only get it if you are in receipt of the higher award of dla or pip as it’s now known as.
You pay for your car directly through the higher rate award, it’s taken directly out of your benefit & paid to motability.
So no there’s no other way you can apply for it if you’re not in receipt of the stated benefits required.
Yes, as far as I know, one must be in receipt of PIP. iIn my own case, I was just awarded the lower rate, so did not qualify, but as the award amount was higher than I anticipated, we went down the route of buying a car outright, and got a good deal on a brand new, but pre registered on 19 plate. My father had a motobility car from 1985 until last year when he sadly passed, and ok, the insurance and servicing was all taken into account BUT at the end of the allotted time, the car was not owned outright
Peter
Thank you Peter for your response I realise now I and a lot of others on this site no doubt do not qualify
I applied for PIP twice, when I lived in Harrogate, and failed. I re applied when I moved to Sleaford, and the person came to the house, why?, I don't know, I never stipulated and was VERY very surprised at the outcome, I was expecting it to end up at court as a Tribunal, just as I did a couple of months earlier with my UC50, maybe that had something to do with it, I don't know
Hi, search motability.co.uk will tell you all you need to know. PIP advanced payment, Armed forces independence payment and something to do with war payment. Used to be able to get it with pension credit but that’s stopped. I get it with DLA high rate. I am currently going through a PIP claim awaiting outcome. Everything crossed at the moment.
Thank you! Hope this helps 🙂
You have to be in receipt of high rate mobility to get a mobility car
to get PIP you have to be under 65 years old, and with PIP part 2 you can lease a car or scooter through Motability. Or do it yourself and do not swell the billions of excess that Motabilty gather each year. See press for details.
With PIP part 1 you get reduced RFL. (Car tax)
I leased my car through Motability but after the lease ended I bought my car as it is adapted for me and the model is no longer made.
Apply for PIP even if too old and ask CAB or AgeUK for advice. Neither will know but both will find out for you. Also find out yourself.
