Hobbies : Hi, i have had sca10 for some time now... - Ataxia UK
Hobbies
I am still waiting for a diagnosis for which type of sca I have so I can’t be sure of ur symptoms but exercise works wonders for me. I enrolled in my local gym who slowly introduced me into types of exercise I could do. 1 year on and I could not do without it, physically or mentally I can’t recommend it enough
I was thinking about hobbies yesterday, I simply cannot read, garden or paint any more and all of us ataxians are different, I can only focus clearly directly in front, at about 12-18", no where else clearly. So I have taken up macrame, some days, 2 knots, some days 40, and lots of learning. I'll post a pic about how and why's when it is done. Better than achieving nothing at the very least.
I love to go on the internet,go out and about and MEDITATING,THEY MIGHT JUST WORK FOR YOU TOO????
OK not sure how bad you are or your interests. Now I cannot do as much but I did quite a lot of walking and gardening.
I researched our family and I enjoy photos. In the winter I spend too much time on my computer. I did jigsaws, listen to book tapes, I like 3D art and work with clay.
I try to exercise most days and go ballroom dancing.
I play Boggle - of writing and reading x
I like to do puzzles. Killer sudoku is my favourate. I also like Codewords, Kuroku and Monograme puzzles. Keeps the mind we'll excersised.😊
Helo Tazmurray,
You say nothing of your situation, skills, or natural abilities, so perhaps a craft hobby, model making, charity work, entertainment, acting, local Church work. Ther are many others to choose from but I hope this will provocate thought for you. Best wishes and good luck!
I’ve been thinking of starting a Bonsai garden, done some research online and talked with a friend who has done it and it seems like I might enjoy it. Just a little at a time. My Dr at Ataxia clinic at UCSF has encouraged me to play some computer games to keep my mind sharp.
