NO, but best to avoid gluten sugar sat-fat hi-processed food junk food as these won’t help.

I agree with petew. I feel if gluten is the cause of ataxia in some people then it’s got to be worth avoiding it for a long period of time to see if it helps. It definitely helps me. But with gluten you need to avoid it completely for it to help, it’s not like meat where you can just cut back a bit. Once you get used to checking all the labels it gets easier, I use brown rice pasta a lot !
There is a theory that gluten can damage the neurotransmitters, so I am giving it up for one whole year to see if there is any difference in my balance, movements, stiffness, etc. I have no other reason to quit gluten. Also the same goes for dairy, and maybe even eggs.
Well done, I have also read about effects of milk and eggs. So since my diagnosis in March I have been a gluten free vegan , I still walk slowly and stiffly and so far my eyesight hasn’t improved but there has been a definite improvement with that feeling of of unbalance, dizziness, motion sickness feeling. Yay 💃🏻
Hi, my feeling is that as SCA3 is hereditary (I also have SCA3), diet is unlikely to have a direct influence on the ataxia itself. However, eating healthier and being careful about ones weight (if possible) is something that can benefit us all - whether suffering from Ataxia or not.
Personally I have gone Gluten free and avoid dairy and seeds. But this is mainly because over the years I have proved to be gluten intollerant, have IBS and occasionally suffer Diverticulitus. Avoiding dairy seemed to give me a boosts in vitality.
So eating healthily will definitely help but unless you are suffering reaction to certain foods I'm not sure the above will have an effect on SCA3 symptoms? But I'm no doctor. Just basing this on personal experience over many years.
