Hi
Has anyone had any positive effects from taking riluzole? I have read that it stops the ataxia symptoms worsening. I know there is a trial in USA at the moment. Does anyone know how this is going?
Thanks

What is riluzole?
Hello,
I saw a new consultant earlier in the year and he mentioned Riluzole to me as a possible drug to try for FA - it is currently used for Motor Neuron Disease - but as yet I haven't tried it. Have you had it suggested to you?
No, I have not heard of it or been offered any treatment. I was only diagnosed last year and the cause my ataxia has not been found. I see my neurologist again in October.
Hi
Here is a previous conversation about riluzole that you may find helpful.

🙂The final results will be available early 2018
As I understand it, Trigriluzole is better absorbed by the liver🙂
Several members on Living with Ataxia have been involved in the trial, some were given a placebo but that's something you need to accept if taking part. 🙂xB
I take this. Neurologist said my walking is better than 6 months ago.
