I have Cerebellar Ataxia and I wondered if falls make symptoms worse? I had a bad fall and noticed I am trembling and very slow walking (very shaky) Has anyone any advice?

Happy Easter Monday! Yes, I have CA too, and I had a bad fall, with concussion and blunt force trauma to head, about two years ago. My trembling and slow walking have become much worse. My GP is sending me back to the neurologist this week, because he noticed my symptoms were worse, too! Good luck to you!

Thank you! The neurologist is thinking PD symptomology, along with the Ataxia. It seems like my symptoms are becoming worse, each year.

I had a fall today😑 Just bruised but, I fell backwards and it did give me a fright.

I was attempting to look up and trim some ivy. Because I was standing on a rockery this was an accident waiting to happen🙄

Having a 'good day' is very welcome but then I tend to attempt tasks I'd normally avoid. Despite being fully aware of the possible outcome, I'd become complacent and overconfident.

So, lesson learnt😏xB

I have falls from a taxia and fall often. This is an eye opener!

😳 Did you try to break your fall by putting your arm out, or did it take the brunt of the fall 🤔 Usually, the instinct to protect doesn't happen when we fall, we just drop like a brick😏

My bottom took the brunt of the fall😑 Apart from that I have bruises, so all in all I was very lucky not to bang my head😏xB

In reply to your question...I think falls which involve the head, can make ataxia worse or accelerate its damaging ways. My analysis: Recently, I fell back on the base of my head. This happened because I stupidly went into a dark, clothes strewn room. Anyway vertigo, not ataxia swaying developed for a long time and I might have it still, just not investigating. I can no longer lie flat on the floor (but require a pillow) because that flatness can bring on vertigo..xxxN

Oh Netta I hope your okay, I can't lie flat as everything goes blurred and I feel nauseous also dizzy when I sit up x

Happy Easter Saint James angel! I feel your pain chick - literally!

I fell and punched a stone step and broke my hand. I was so bad for a few days after this fall, that's I then fell and broke my finger and bruised my cheekbone.

I then fell and broke my finger and bruised my cheekbone. For definitely shakes you up.

So my advice would be to take it easy for a few days at least, someone has just hopefully posted a vitamin strategy that made a lot of sense as well

Good luck and take care chick

Hi.

I fall everyday. Not always on the floor though luckily. I have banged my head badly in the past (fell down stairs) & yes I am convinced that it's accelerated my problems but I also think any fall can impact on other issues/problems we may suffer from ie back problems etc depending on how you fall.

I personally feel that during a fall you may twist or contort your body that may hurt other joints or muscles depending on how you fall.

Things we have to put up with! 😢

Also mentally falls have an huge impact. It really shakes you up too.

Try not to fall. ALWAYS hold onto something or sit whilst doing something to save falls! It's easy to forget when we feel "normal" lol!

Dear Stamesangel, Every time I've fallen, it knocks my confidence down one more peg, therefore, I move very slowly and am ultra aware of falling (especially if I hurt myself)! Never shaky/trembling though (other then my balance, which is highly compromised 24/7), so I would suggest you talk to you GP or neuro to make sure all's OK. Falls are very traumatic and really shake you up, especially if you hurt yourself! My best to you..., ;o)

I have fallen a few times and have been fortunate they were not very serious although I was quite shaken and somewhat bruised with some scrapes.

As a result I self-referred myself to a Falls Clinic. After a few examinations I was referred to group therapy. When I arrived the physio decided I could not be able to join the group and would need individual treatment.

This has helped considerably - better than any previous therapy even the sessions from the Ataxia physio. I'm feeling more confident on my feet, my body generally is more flexible and my balance has improved.

If you have a Falls Clinic nearby I do encourage you to give them a call.

Please see your Doctor. The falls are more likely as a result of your symptoms getting worse.

I had a bad fall in February and am now very shaky and nervous, I fractured my pelvis in two places! I am so scared, I don't want to fall again. Usually I'm very careful but maybe was'nt careful enough. I'm like a pinball wizard walking round holding/bouncing off walls or any solid object. I find that staying anywhere different makes me even worse because not knowing which object/wall is stable enough. Does anyone else feel like this?

Stay safe

Berejena ❤️

Hope your feeling better berejena, but I am the same as you. Now that broken bones are involved it frightens me. I am constantly dizzy and I've been very shaky since I fell. Look after yourself

Anyone been daft enough to tidy an 8 year olds room see what's on top of there wardrobe by standing on a low swivel computer chair??Don't Christ knows how I didn' t break my neck..Ot shook me up so much my Dad couldn't believe I had been so daft (my Mum could)given the fact that I can fall over nothing ..It gets in my way.I don't know how or why I got up on the thing but I sure won't be again...Luckily it was shock and major bruising to me.Its weird the "minor falls over nothing seem to cause more damage?"I don't want to temp fate my son's pit of a bedroom can remain the same he wasn't happy with my tidying I had moved things...I thought it needed tidying now it's DIY...He can sort his own room out..
