Has anybody else had falls for the same reason I had?

After knowing that automatic movements that were easy before the Ataxia, cannot be done easily anymore, I am careful.

But every now and then I do it anyway, without thinking, and fall.

yes, I have had so many calls even walking with my walker I usually fall backwards and hit my head helpers then insist on calling the hospital I’ve also fallen down several steps onto a carpark One small tip holding on to rail go down backwards, it certainly helps. Good luck in the future.

Like you, I walk backwards on the stairs and hold on the banisters. So I am always careful not to fall but too often it happens anyway because of thoughtlesnesss.

It is hard to remember every move.

I totally avoid stairs, just way too hard. I won't have a fall for sometime and think wow, I haven't fallen for awhile and then boom, down I go. In next week to repair a hip fracture I've been living with for over a year. Not sure the repair will work, but hopefully? Remember to take things slooooow. :)

A lot of falls are related to foot drop. Your brain thinks you are walking correctly.

The toes end up dragging and you fall.

Orthotics will assist with foot drop :)
