Hi Claire 01,

Have you got an occupational therapist involved in your care reviews? If not then ask your gp.to refer you to the social services occupational therapy service. There may be a grant you can access depending on where you live etc. But they will come out and do a home assessment for that and any other issues affecting your ability to function as independently as possible.

Hope that helps?

Assuming you are in UK, if you have PIP mobility component, you can apply for a lease car from Motability charity. After PIP assessment you get part one or not of PIP, if PIP assessor awards you part two of PIP this is mobility part and can be used how you want. After choosing a car from dealership, things are set in motion. The car salesman gets none or less commission I am told. They must do it out of the goodness of their heart.

If PIP part one only, then only 50% reduction on Road Fund License is possible (aka Car tax). DVLA do not back date refund of RFL. So apply for new car RFL classification ASAP. DVLA automatically refund without prompting.

In UK, never heard of OT helping with car. If not assessed for PIP yet. Get it done. OT can help financially with many other household things in UK.

Apart from Motability.org.uk another good site is rica.org.uk

All spellings are correct.

Hi, what do you meant by PIP part 1 and PIP part 2 ?

PIP part 2 is enhanced rate, full PIP with mobility component.

PIP part 1 has no mobility component.

I had the OT via my GP referral.

I know there are grants for home improvements.

Ataxia UK may be able to help you too.

Good luck
