Good evening any help would be appreciated. Does anybody have any experience of the Trionic Velapod Sport rollator. I am thinking of buying one, but they are very expensive but if it can give some confidence back it will be money well spent. Any thoughts would be welcome. Thank you. Regards James

Yes, I have one, it has been the source of a huge amount of happiness and relief- I can go out on my own and rest and carry extra whatevers with me. The smooth setting was fine and quicker even on our rough roads, I have described it before on this page a while back. Now I am a bit improved so I use a living person for stability ( a big, heavy person) but the freedom it gave me was wonderful. One of the best things is most rollators force you into a bent over position, with this you can walk correctly. See if you can read my old post for more?

I don't have any experience with one but perhaps you could try one out? I do know that some companies do bring them out to people. I would definitely advise trying before shelling out.

Thank you unfortunately we live on the Isle of Man, most companies think that is past Antarctica. Regards James

🙂I contacted Trionic a while ago, I was interested in their rollator, they were very helpful and offered to send one FOC, and with a 14 day return policy.

Hi Jimbob Have only just seen your post. I have a Trionic Veloped, It is one of the best buys I have ever made . I have tramped around muddy fields, through woods etc. I must have had it for about 10 years and mostly use it in the garden now. It is very tatty now due to all the use. I have found mind to be invaluable. Don't know where you live but you are welcome to come and try it

Hello JimbobI was intrigued by your post and the trionic catalogue came today. Great looking machines and carefully thought through.

The question my wife asked me was “what is stopping you from walking now?”

For me the answer is if I stop concentrating for a moment the messages don’t reach my feet and one of them then stops, so I stumble or fall. I currently use the treadmill in my local gym to get any safe walking in, and that involves hanging on. If your legs are still strong and all you need is a bit of balance, and you want to walk more then despite their relative high price they are probably better value than a cheap rollator.

At present walking is a real chore for me and that’s despite all my muscles being fit and strong. I am working with a neuro physio to improve the finer muscle movements that make walking a pleasure. I just have to persuade parts of my brain that are not my cerebellum to take over!

So if you feel you can still enjoy walking then doing more of it will be good for you in many ways, and the cost of a veloped is money well spent. You can certainly get it on 14 day approval, probably even in the Isle of Man.

Let us know how you get on.

Nigel

Hi Nigel

Thank you for your reply, it poses questions that I have not thought about. My biggest problem is fear and a lack of confidence.

This purchase, to a degree, is being driven by my partner, she feels it will enable me to address some of my demons. My mind will not allow me to be that positive.

I think I should throw caution to the wind and give it a go!

I will let you know.

Regards

James

Hi James I understand the lack of confidence. It’s important to feel safe when out walking and the quality of the support makes a difference. I have started using my trekking poles but indoors and extended to almost shoulder level. Before I furniture surfed round the house! Although this is more wobbly it stops me stooping and improves my posture and my heel to toe work.

If your legs are still strong then giving them regular exercise will be good for you. Safety and feeling safe is important. Trionic give you 14 days to try it and if you never try you’ll never know.

Good luck

Nigel

Hi James, did you get a trionic? What are your thoughts now?My wife is in training for a walking marathon (this coming Sunday) and came across a trionic outin the new forest. She spoke to the lady owner who was full of praise for it. We have just had some building work done so no money until about November! Gives me time to get my legs really strong or decide to get another battery for my wheelchair instead.

I lost my reply!! You must have been reading my mind!! I raided the piggy bank (we may not eat for a couple of months), threw caution to the wind, crossed all parts of my body I could and went for it. Initial reaction, it’s big. I have had two trial runs-1/6hr shopping trip to Meadowhall (living on the Isle of Man wwe don’t see big shops) 2/Campervan trip to local beauty spot. Both went really well. I still lack confidence trying it on my own, but we are off on a 12 day trip to UK in a fortnight. I will give a blow by blow account of my successses and failures.Initial reaction, it is worth every pennny! It is my courage I need to work on.

Regards

James
