I'm looking to go abroad on holiday in May/June 2016 with my partner, my sister + her husband, possibly a cruise, any recommendations?
Holiday: I'm looking to go abroad on holiday in... - Ataxia UK
Holiday
Never been on cruise but have been to Costa Dorada ok depending where hotel is lots of ramps on paths ,Majorca again depending on resort would not recommend Bulgaria although most places flat kerbs etc very large and from my experience and was using rollater at time but I would research area you plan to go hotels etc enjoy your holiday
Don't book anything with a High Street Travel Agent or from a TV ad. Absolute loads off when u book online. Very often cruises advertised on TV are cheaper when booked online.
Depends how disabled you are. A cruise was expensive but no stress.
Www.wheelchairfriendlyholiday.co.uk is run by an Ataxian and gives better rates to other Ataxians. The adapted villa is in mazarron Spain. Easy jet to Murcia. Easy stuff.
Thanks Willywonka1968, I'll check out the website.
I would now book a cruise. The crew were very helpful.Take a carer.I went on the Balmoral about 3 yrs ago from docks in Southampton. One of my local support group goes regularly. Both of us are in wheechairs.
I'm going on a cruise in May with Thomsons. I have heard very good reviews cruising with this company. The cruise ship is called the 'Celebration' ship. The cruise itself leaves from Dubrovnik, Croatia and tours the Greek islands. A local disabled person I know said he would recommend cruising for disabled people. He said he was very well looked after by both the air and cruise crew. We have also been able to book a disabled cabin on the ship. There was also no extra insurance payment needed because of my ataxia. I can also take on board both the plane and ship my small build up mobility scooter

I'd be very interested to hear how you go cruising with this company and also with the ports etc - let me know?
I thoroughly enjoyed Corfu last year Iain though din't go on cruise.Cruises are very suitable for the disabled.

Lots of sites for accessability - just go to google - accessible friendly holidays - (it's getting better!) x
I will let you know Suzymoo2 when I get back. The Thomson's travel agent assistant had also told us that this specific cruise has no 'tender to ports', which means that all the port of calls will be easily accessible from ship to landing port area for disabled people. There will be no need to be transferred from the ship onto another boat in order to reach land.
Iain
I've previously had no problem tendering.
I'm very interested in both the ship and accessibility of the ports, especially Dubrovnik.
