Asthma cough!

I find it really concerning the lack of knowledge the GPs have on asthma and that in this day in age are still focused on peak flow testing which is not a good gage for the asthma cough!!! My peak flow has always been good, peak flow tests upper chest airways and not lower! I have had flare up for weeks! Steroids for one week, then told to stop them, cough gets worse go back see another GP it’s wait for it viral 😂 because my peak flow is good so go away a week later still not sleeping great see asthma nurse! By the way on 4 medications for my asthma a day!!!! Finally someone that understands my inhaler dosage doubles and the cough is improving! I do not always want to be on steroids on long health effects thin skin, hair, weight gain and brittle bones I am youg and where possible want to avoid high volume steroids usage and 8 weekly treatment on them! However wanted to share that my symibcort was doubled and yes gives me headache but guess what cough improving! I hope GPs are educated better on asthma soon and that it’s not all about peak flow! I could have saved 3 appointments if they were!!! Yet all you hear is how stretched they are! Better awareness of chronic illness would save appointments! Rant over but wanted to share the success of double inhaler dosage not always steroids required just for flare ups

At my surgery my doctors refuse to discuss asthma and copd in general and refer you to the respiratory nurse. They have told me 'They know more than us anyway'. Maybe they are right? x

Think they are from my experience 😊

I am extremely lucky as my doctor's are able to help me by doing a full asthma check and like the nurse's can I have never had serious problems with anything. Asthma is a specialised subject and not all doctor's want to know about it
