Hello paijejo
Can I ask how your doctor came to this conclusion ? What tests have you already had. If you work on the principle that your lungs work well when they are at 100% strength, then yours are working at just under half of that strength.
It's good that your GP is sending you to a specialist respiratory clinic. Take a good look around this site, you will be able to gather lots of information and form questions to ask when you attend the clinic.
Alternatively, why not give the British Lung Foundation Helpline a call. Their number is 03000 030 555. They will be more than happy to talk things through with you and offer help and advice too.
All the very best
and remember,
keep on keeping on
Hello elian, I have just had a lung function test, where you blow fast, the long and slow and 32% was the outcome.

Hi pajejo my FEV1 issimilar to yours Im at 33%. 12 months ago it was 42% I was diagnosed with emphysema 14 months ago.Again if you are worried phone BLF I do no feel any different than what I was 12 months ago. I have good and bad days Tell me was you told the possible cause of your breathing problems.
Hello CarlB, at 18yrs of age I got pneumonia from then on I had Bronchial Asthma,I was diagnosed c.o.p.d. aout 5yrs ago, all this happened exactly the same as my mum and her mum before her. It`s hereditry for me I am told, I have good days and bad days like us all but never asked my lung capacity before today and he said it was 48% 3yrs ago and after doing my tests this morning he told me it is now 32%, so I am unsure what to think, will it get better?
Regards Wendy x
My previous doctor said mine was 42%. I changed doctors and the new one sent me for proper tests at the hospital. Fev1 is actually 27%. I don't feel any different whatever the number and carry on regardless !
