Try 111. Last time I used it I got a face to face with my own GP on the same day.

Did you speak to a doctor or a receptionist? A lot of people don't know what bronchiectasis is & they get confused with bronchitis

annaemmalucy profile image
annaemmalucy in reply topeege

Hi no receptionist. You can't get by them 😂

I had a run in with a jobs worth receptionist last week. I have shared care with my drs and rheumatology department at the hospital. The rheumatologist wants to take over my blood tests because I’m on a new med and need tests every month and it’s impossible to book monthly bloods at the drs. The receptionist told me categorically that if I want my methotrexate prescription I have to have the bloods done at the drs!

Hi Helen my question is, will the doctor surgery do this each month?

helenlw7 profile image
helenlw7 in reply toannaemmalucy

I’m fairly sure the answer would be no! When they told me that I had to have my appointments at the surgery, the first one they could me was the 28th April, and they wouldn’t let me book Mays. With the hospital I had my first appointment yesterday and they’ve already booked next months!

Personally I think yours and my experience says it all about our gps. Do you think they are going down the private route?

helenlw7 profile image
helenlw7 in reply toannaemmalucy

I think you may be right. I’ve just tried to book my husband a follow up appointment with his gp and a blood test.you can now only book on the NHS app. It says there aren’t appointments available but it didn’t ask what sort appointment I needed.the system is absolute rubbish I’m at my wits end!

Do what Troilus suggests , my Daughter was told there were no appointments available. Called 111 and they made an appointment at her own GPs 2 hours later .

I will do this. Thank you

That’s pathetic what GP are doing to patients. Why do they bother working as many don’t care.I know how you feel.

I rang 111 after no go appt and received one that same afternoon. They are better at assessing you than Gp receptionists. Good luck!

What is happening with gps? 🤬 Mine are the same but you can only make on the day appointments. Of course by the time you get through there are non left! I think the 111 is the way to go.

Did 111 and now waiting for surgery to reply. This seems the only way too go. Sad

I think Troius 111call has done the trick. Waiting for surgery to ring me. Thank you all. Would not have thought of 111

This covid farce in my opinion is used as an excuse to cut NHS expenditure.Personally if the issue is not urgent or VERY expensive I use NHS otherwise I prefer cut on discretionary expenses ( holydays, new cars, shopping , gym etc) and create a buffer account in order to go private ...better service, longer consultation, visit in days...in case of tests, I prefer spend 100 pounds on an x-ray and avoid major problems rather than wait two months on nhs...I know, is not FAIR but I am tired of fighting with windmills!

PS waiting TWO months for an x-ray made my lung cancer grow DOUBLE ...now I live with only one lung because one had to be entirely removed because the tumor was too big..but I saved myself 100 pounds! 🤔

I'm sorry but private is not an option. I don't do fancy holidays or new cars. Just a pensioner. No spare money

i have no faith in private medicine . If anything goes wrong you are of to nearest NHS emergency dept. I admit being prejudiced as I worked for NHS !

Good to know that by doing 111 route you could get more help from GP practice !

if the nhs doctors were told they could not do private work until their nhs lists are down to the same time as private lists the NHS would be great
