Ring age uk they know the exact wording and will send someone to fill out form for you good luck dave
As Dave says get help from someone who is a benefits expert. Indeed Age UK as Dave suggested, or there is also Welfare Rights, CAB or DIAL. Please Maxer get some help, especially if you have been turned down for DLA in the past. They fill these forms in day in day out and can assess a situation up very quickly and fill the forms in much quicker than we can. It will also take away all the added stress which you don't need.
Dad has AA, he had the CAB fill in the application for him. I give them the credit to be honest because they do it so often they know how to fill it in.
Hi maxer do get help with filling out the AA forms for either CAB or Age concern they are used to filling in these forms and like I said to my mum and dad 78 and 79 you do not need this extra stress or hassel they can also look into other help that you may be entitled to. Good Luck BB
I made a claim last year for the lower rate of AA and it was successful. I have moderate IPF. I described my condition as it is on a bad day, not on one of the occasional good days. I got the impression, when talking to someone at the DWP about the claim, that the determining factor in the award was the letter from my NHS Consultant which described the condition and the effect it has on me.
Hi maxer, your question has probably been answered adequately by others, but at the beginning of last year I actually got in touch with social services as I was living alone and finding it hard to cope (I'm younger than you at a week off 60) and they said they could send someone to fill the application for DLA (care element, I already had the mobility element). I actually ended up filling it in myself, quite confident that I had done it properly, but was only awarded the lower amount, despite my sister being much more mobile than me and receiving the highest amount. So, any help you can get from someone experienced can only be for the good. Good luck! Libby
AgeUK did mine for me. I rang the local number and they made an appointment and came to my home and filled out the form for me. I had failed twice on my own but they got higher rate first time. If it fails you let them know and they will appeal for you. Hope you are successful. Carole
Thanks everyone for the advice. Soon as the forms arrive I will get in touch with them.

Hi
Give the BLF Helpline a call - 03000 030 555 - and speak to Jo, Carol or Biddy - they will have a chat through the criteria with you and help you to understand how your condition and symptoms will qualify you for AA.
I have been on the lower rate of Attendance Allowance for 5 years. I am Female 65. I am quite poorly at the moment and have difficulty doing many things. The Nurse this week said she felt I should apply for the higher rate AA and advised me not to try to fill the forms in myself but to contact Age Concern. I phoned them yesterday and they are going to ring me back in a few days to make an appointment to visit me. It does seem more sensible to use their experiene and help. Hope you get sorted. ALSO: I'd like to mention that I was having problems with Income Tax for the last three years. I rang Age Concern and they gave me their contact number for Tax Help for The Elderly. They came to the house to see me, took all the details and unbelievably got the Tax Man to come to the right conclusion with a week. What a result!
