Yes if an infection is bad I want to sleep, suppose it's your body saying rest hope your feeling better soon Val
Thanks val, this is the worse iv had, even my feet have swallon this time x
Gordan thanks very much, for your answer, I'm the same I tend 2 sleep downstairs in a chair, also i don't go far on my own, xxx
hi all, hope you feel better soon claire. You all feel so tired? i do too, though it hasnt helped lately as i havent been sleeping properly since my mum passed away. As with going out, i spend most my time in the house, only pop to the local shops for anything i need, as i wont go out on my own incase i get breathless, i've suffered badly with anxiety attacks too which doesnt help. No one really seems to understand how i am, they all keep telling me to get out and go places myself, even drive long distances, but i get tearful easily and anxious, which then causes me to be breathless, one vicious circle, the doctors never seem to want to help. I am now suffering with like an achy pain all down my leg and i get numbness too, which i also get in my arm also, its all down my left side, i was told it was sciatica, it hasnt cleared up, i am finding myself using a walking stick alot of the time when i am out, to help with the tiredness and with how my leg is. When i get chest infections, i automatically get given steroids too, i tend to have chest infections, mainly in my right lung, lasting for 2 or more months, then i am ok for a few weeks, then they return.
Iv been diagnosed 18/19 months, this is the first time iv felt this bad x
Hi Gordon
I bought myself a 3 wheeled "Rollator" complete with bag to push, as using a stick was beginning to make me and more particularly my neck lean sideways - not a good idea said the physio who advised me at the time - and it has been a godsend. Cheaper to buy on line than through the High Street "disability" shops and worth having a look at! Mind you I also use it carry my 02 cylinder but there are some nice 4 wheelers complete with bag AND a seat!
Clair and you Gordon, have either of you attended a PR programme? This would help you get out and move about to your benefit and help to boost your self confidence. Do ask your GP about it. I have to admit I have always had a tendency to nod off - particularly at meetings! - but don't feel quite as lethargic as you both are and again probably warrants a chat with your health professional. I do get swollen ankles/feet but this usually when sitting down so now I try to put my feet up when I do sit down for any length of time.
Bye for now
M
Yeah could be the weather, I sleep in my reclining chair x
Gordon - might it be worth getting a larger stool if you are going to continue staying down stairs? Just a thought

i think it is the weather that is making us bad, i have spoken to a friend tonight who i havent spoken to in a few years and she said i sounded bad. My mum had one of the 3 wheelers, but i let the care home have it, think i should have kept it lol, i also have my mum's wheelchair here that i am trying to sell. My mum passed so suddenly, she was taken into hospital on 19th may, diagnosed with severe pneumonia and passed away the following night at about 8.20pm, less than 24 hrs after being taken to hospital, she was ok before then, just had had a couple of falls, thankfully i had gotten up to her and was with her as she was passing away which was hard to be there, but i couldnt leave her side. When i got to the hospital 3 hours earlier, she was eating jelly with help and drinking tea, i was also giving her drinks of water too. I got laughed at for having a walking stick, but it is such a help when i am tired while out and about, gives me something to lean on when there isnt anything to lean on at all. I am a bit self-concious at times when people stare, i sometimes want to get it out and think will i have the stares and leave it until i really desperately need it, but it is a godsend. I also have th eblue badge for my car, though i get stared at when i pull into disabled spaces, people look at me as though i shouldnt be parked there. I have been to the preliminary session for pulmonary rehab and waiting for the course to start now, but i dont have a respiratory nurse or consultant, i only get to see my gp when i have to go back for check-ups every 6 months. I see a community mental health nurse every 2 weeks for the anxiety and depression, which helps alot. My gp doesnt seem to take notice of how often i am on anitbiotics and steroids and doesnt seem to think i am at all bad with my illness, although i try to tell him.
I think this dreadful miserable weather makes me feel tired and not good for breathing. It is so damp and dark here today and makes me feel a bit depressed, and I think when I am feeling a bit low then everything seems worse, I want to sit outside with the sun on my face and feel the warmth.
Libby
hi i am new to here,i have copd ,had it for 7 years they said it was asthma for about 10 years before ,i have just ffinished my fifth lot of antibiotics and know how you feel
yes i to sleep quite a lot whether i have an infection or not (i was diagnosed with severe c.o.p.d and emphasema just over 2 years ago) since then i have learnt that i must take my life at a more slower pace (something that im not used to being a very active mother and grandmother in the past) good days see me overdoing it to the point where i can be exausted for up to a week at a time and do virtually nothing for myself... fortunately local social services have made sure that my home is well equipped with aid's to help and key safe for medical emergency if needed so i see myself as 1 of the lucky ones (help wise) KEY WORD'S I LIVE BY = SLOW AND EASY PACE = REGULAR CHECK-UPS = REST DONT FIGHT IT
Hi, I'm sorry i don't know your name so i cannot personally address this reply. In my case i also diagnosed for c.o.p.d about three months ago, after having suffered from shortness of breath. Until i was diagnosed, my cardiologist told me it was due to lack of exercise and over weight, although i'm only 15 pounds over the average weight. i'm very relieved that you were diagnosed with severe c.o.p.d two years ago. Have you been told of any prognoses? Are you on an oxygen machine, and inhalers? somebody told me i better not use a swimming pool where water is chlorine treated. Thank you, and best wishes
