Possible COPD Scam?

LanarkEric1949 profile image

Yesterday when on Facebook I watched a advert for a product for those with lung conditions in a short film presented by Deborah Meaden.Deborah claims that current COPD inhalers at best only manage the disease at worst they may make the disease worse. However she is convinced she knows about a product which is CBD gummies which if taken by those with COPD will experience a transformation in their disease that will improve their condition immensely.

I would post Deborahs video here but cannot through lack of skills and the infringement of advertising rules here.

Anyway,I decided to order £107 worth of this product.Later in the evening yesterday ((Friday) I noticed I didn't receive a email of confirmation of my order or the money.

I began to wonder is this a scam?.

Well I contacted my bank, they confirmed £107 had been taken from my account,I explained my scam concerns and the bank agrees there are scams in Facebook, upshot my card has been cancelled and a replacement should arrive in 5 working days.

The supplier advised me my product will arrive for me at my home address on the 23rd of March.I will advise you here if the products arrive or not.

I also heard that when you order this product it is on a repeat basis

This sounds like a scam. Unfortunately scammmers use Dragons Den entrepreneurs identities to lure people in. Sara Davis has had similar problems with a slimming advert. I reported that one to Facebook but unsurprisingly they would not act and take it down. I am pleased that your bank has been so helpful. Sorry you have had this problem.

Hi Nimrod2, Thank you for your reply to my post.I would like to point out the ad was a video of Deborah talking to the camera describing this product and it's benefits for those with lung conditions particularly COPD.I wasn't just an add where they attached Deborah name to.I suppose I am quite gullible I swallowed every bit of her presentation, seemed like a god send for helping persons with COPD

Thanks for that. There is so much misinformation about and Deborah Meaden is very believable. We all just need to be careful. I agree with Mellywelly about taking care before you think of trying them. Look after yourself.

The video is created using AI and is not genuine.

matin va , it might be more that you are being exploited rather than conned . most likely your gummies will turn up , i have some in my basket to get when i can afford them , only they cost around 18 - 36 pound , max , this person has a big mark up . ok , as far as the gummies go , they are suppose to help you relax and sleep better . i am still on cashew nuts , they only cost 2.75 from Tesco . only dray back with cashew nuts is , you have too sit and open them , and then chew on them for ten minutes , a little teddies . but as you know this is the lengths we will go too .

if you google 24/25 revue for copd gold , that's where she found the gummies , they also say ginseng is good for copd , also very expensive around 24 pound for a half descent root from Korea . please don't take anything before asking your nurse or doctor .

please always buy your supplement's from a reputable dealer .

all the best

joseph

I dont think you mean cashew nuts - they are never sold in their shells as they contain a toxin which has to be processed ( there's a big problem for exploited workers in the cashew farming industry ).I think you mean pistachios?

There is a scary level of AI fake videos - it may well have been a fake .

A deep fake video. They can be indistinguishable from the real person.

If you do receive the product, please be careful as you don't really know what ingredients are in there 😉

The ad could have been generated by AI I cant imagine Ms Meaden would need to make ads for Face-ache. She's loaded. These scammers know exactly who to hook in. Imagine one thousand people with copd think "well, £107 isn't too much to lose and it might even work ". .... equals £107,000 (Ithink)

as it’s on a repeat basis make sure you cancel the direct debit or standing order right now. Have the bank refunded your money? It’s definitely a scam

It's also important u get your money back and you put a post warning others and a comment telling folk it's a scam in big writing. Fight the scammers.

so sorry - it is very hard to know these days what is genuine with AI making all sorts of believable images and information. Also sales through FB! You did the right thing and good thing your bank is responsive, Do be careful if that stuff arrives as it may not be good for you.

Also using products to make u sleep can be dangerous. You body wakes u up for a reason. You breathing could be compromised by your lying position. U know what copd is like. U need to be careful. Very careful. I would invest in good pillows and an air filter before gummies.

I just did a bit of checking online and there is another scam( for slimming pills) using Deborah Meaden.I doubt anything will arrive but please, if anything arrives in the post, don’t take it as it could be anything and may make you ill. Well done for getting onto your bank. Have a lovely Sunday.

I would say this is certainly a scam. I was taken like that from an advertisement on fb and consequently would NEVER order anything through fb again! My scam was for an expensive face cream that they were giving you the chance to try for the cost of the postage, I thought, bargain. But it turned out that I had unwittingly signed up for a repeat monthly subscription for about £60pm. I did manage to prove it was fraud and get my money back eventually but what a hassle. Once they have your card number...You know what they say, if something sounds too good to be true, it probably isn't. It's horrible to be had this way, do hope you get your money back.

Hello,

So sorry that you have v likely been scammed.

These horrible scammers are everywhere, making many of the public lack trust in these ads.

Remember if it seems to good to be true it probably is!

Happy to make others aware ( inc. Deborah Meaden ) aware by posting awareness on another social media platform.

If you paid by debit card the bank should refund you if you request a chargeback from them ? Perhaps they have already done that ?

Go well

Pauline

that’s a worry ! To be honest well known people are often suggested to be involved but I doubt Deborah meaden would risk her reputation. There is a similar one of the Money box live guy recommend bit coin . It’s fake film.

Thank goodness you got to your bank and they sorted it. Too many scams these days .

I wouldnt order anything from facebook, they are nearly all scams or drastically expensive. Cbd gummies are made from cannabis with the thc removed, you can buy something similar from Holland and Barrett although I doubt it would do much for any of our lung conditions, could make you feel better in yourself though x

I have a feeling that CBD products are only legal in the UK if sold as food supplements, and if they contain less than 1 mg per container. If sold as medicines, in any case, they are illegal in the UK, and you might find they are confiscated by HM Customs if they are coming from abroad.

I don’t understand why people are willing to pay significant sums of money against all professional medical advice and, instead, choose undocumented products promoted (seemingly) by non-medical business entrepreneurs.

I’m sorry not to be sympathetic; these CBD gummy scam claims have been revealed here and elsewhere so many times of late.

Hi Lee,Thanks for your comment,I appreciate what you are saying regarding Facebook scams, however,I was swayed because I watched Deborah being interviewed on camera discussing the merits of this product,to me this was a genuine interview,I have no knowledge of what possibilities AI can achieve with fakery, this to me was Deborah offering a product that would greatly improve the quality of life for someone coping with COPD.

the CBD gummies scam has been around for years with various other famous people I think the last one I saw was with Gloria Hunniford.

Be very careful of facebook. Everything is scam and very slick videos. They spend a lot of money on the presentation and watch the money roll in and roll in again monthly. I've been done this way. The repeat subscription is in small writing. You may get dummies. I got CBD oil for pain but it is weak. It doesnt work and hardly anything in the bottle. You probably will get a packet of gums. But you dont know what's in them. I doubt they will do anything. If u must buy online. Dont buy through facebook. Go to trustpilot the official site and review the company and the product. Most scams are on trustpilot. Plus buy through paypal. They will give u your money back. That is the best way. Coz guaranteed someone else has been scammed as well. Facebook need to fo something to stop the scammers. Even charity's and animal sanctuary 's can be a scams u need to check these as well.

Hi there, there are so many scam advertisers on FB. All from USA if you check their Contact us details they never give you an address, I always Google the company in question to read more about them. I ordered some slimming pills supposedly re Dragons Den, when I got them there is no information whatsoever on ingredients, side effects etc. Suspicious, you bet. I took one and it made me very ill with chest pains. I contacted them and they just said oh sorry about that. They will only refund if unopened. You have to pay postage back to America no return address either. You have to get that from them. Postage around £15 to return. So check with your doctor etc. Don't do it.

Not what you're looking for?
