Another Scam or fraud

Yesterday I was sent a pop up screaming ring this number your computer has been blocked by Microsoft we can unblock it. When I rang someone said I can get rid of that but it will cost £3.99. Then asked for my bank details and promptly charged my account £240 for gift items from NIKE. It is becoming that we can't even answer our own private phones lately or use our personal computers. I have reported to the bank and they say its a scam but I say its fraud and have reported it to police and Nike . The bank have agreed to refund the money and accept its identity theft of a sort. How can I run my phone friendship group and keep in touch with widows when I can't even pick up my own private phone without being put at risk from these despicable people. ????

It's disgusting the way people are using these scams, we have to be so careful these days. These people have no shame, but I'm really pleased you are getting your money back. Have a lovely day and take care 😊 Bernadette and Jack 🐕 xxxxxx

Thank you think I have got over the shock but they are so thoughtless and an older person than me might have had a heart attack from it.

I’m so sorry to hear you were caught out Katie. These people are truly the scum of the earth. You can still run your friendship group and you’re now aware of what these awful people are capable of.

So pleased you’re getting your money refunded and glad you reported it.

Take care dear friend. Xxxx

Many Thanksxx

I never speak to anyone on my mobile or landline unless they are the doc or personal friends. Same with txts and emails. Please katie, ignore ignore delete delete.

There are so many of these scams. I get at least 2 every day.

Yes it is crazy, but my fingers are getting tired of typing complaints or filling in forms and it still goes on. What's worrying is this is how the future will be, some people living on the ill gotten gains wheedled out of less fortunate. Have a nice evening

The same thing happened to me last year. It was a scam and it cost me $300. I've learned my lesson.

Think I will be less accommodating in future and ask them to ring back when I have checked their details. Its upsetting when it happens isn't it? Hope you are more cautious now. I will be now.

How horrible for you. I am so sorry.

At least your bank is refunded it.

I never answer my landline and if it is an unknown number on my mobile I don't respond. But of course, one of the problems is that when doctors phone it comes up as "ID unknown."

Usually I am expecting the call.

Love from one Kate to a Katie

Now you have spotted the one major flaw in receiving calls however I have noticed more and more that NHS are using text messaging but otherwise you have to hope its the GP I know most of their voices as I have been a patient for a long time, but my doctors and staff are all changing , what a sorry state we are coming to.

oh dear you rang the number.... you need to be sure your computer is not hacked, that should never have happened. (re getting pop ups)

Scan your computer, update your AV and download and MS updates to fix the problem.

You can be sure if this ever happens again, you've been hacked and should not respond.

Hope you can get the computer sorted.

(don't forget to restart your computer after the downloads and scans have been done)

Anything coming through your phone, you can block them don't respond to anything or anyone you do not know. Check with your phone company about reporting and blocking the numbers, do it as soon as you receive the call.

if you are with BT hang up on the caller and phone 1572 straight away to block this is reported to BT at the same time and they will investigate.

Sorry you are dealing with this but so glad the bank was helpful for you.

Thanks Bkin I have done a deep scan, but my sound is faulty since it happened . I can do the same on talk talk in respect of blocking numbers. The Bank says to get a professional clean on my computer to be sure but not sure what that will cost. I used to have block for pop ups but it seems to have gone missing again. I can pay monthly for extra security on my phone so they have to say whose calling before it gets put through, this service used to be free. Anyway I am working on it to get things sorted. Thank you for reply have a good day

in reply to katieoxo60

Hope its all sorted soon for you katie, its a right pain having to deal with all this. Keep up the good work :) x

From my experience of malware, it can take a while before the system sorts itself out. It sounds as if this particular malware overrode your pop-up blocker. In a day or so, Microsoft and/or your antivirus software will pick it up and send an update to destroy it and correct the system. Alternatively, you could try rebooting the computer now to see if the system corrects itself. I once had occasion when malware prevented me from accessing the computer completely, but I managed to run a Kaspersky rescue disk to recover it - I believe Kaspersky antiviral software is still available free of charge, if you want to try it.

That’s shocking! I’m so sorry it happened to you. I’m angry as have had 3 phone calls today trying to get me to give my bank details . I just hang up but still makes me angry. Seems nothing is done to stop scams. I’m considering giving up my telephone line now I don’t need it for BB connection .... I don’t think.

I was thinking of doing that but my mobile is too small for me to do everything on and because of my hands they sometimes can't hear me when the mobile moves . I bought a phone stand but I can't hear them when I use it I don't know what to do for the best. Have a nice day.

I’m so sorry this happened to you. My sister had a similar experience and it was through a seemingly familiar email from someone she knew. In short, it wasn’t that person.

One tactic we’ve come up with when anyone asks for banking details is to tell them that only our solicitor has that information and they must contact them personally. They usually hang up.

Glad the bank are on my side apparently they agree its fraud as those who are doing it are using big trusted company names so people think it is genuine. But for the victims it is causing stress, and much inconvenience while everything is sorted out and creating fear of using normal everyday items. I even have Macafee on my computer which checks every download but they still beat that one too. Enjoy your day

☹️😡 no scruples, obviously. Dire people or rather pond life. Happy you had your bank on your side. Even so its still enough to make you concerned as to how it could effect your "phone friendship". 🐿🌈😷x

Yes it does , because it seems any phone number can be shown on your screen but the bank have advised on how to check. Its as bad as checking door knockers , and rogue traders. Its the untrustworthy society we live in these days many just out to make a buck so to speak. But everything has to be checked these days unless you know the person personally.
