I thought Doxycycline was normally prescribed for 14 days to make sure any lingering bugs were zapped. Don't know what the procedure is for pneumonia. You need to talk to someone more knowledgeable than me, but best wishes- hope you get an answer soon.
Did you have a CT scan when you had pneumonia, to see if you had pleurisy, fluid on the lungs? When I had pneumonia and pleurisy, Nov 2019, I had a big pain at the left side bottom of my rib cage, which gradually moved around to my side. I was hospitalised for 10 days, had loads of different antibiotics, at least one being intravenous, and the drew off 3/4 litre of yellow infected fluid from my chest cavity. I believe that this illness may have caused my heart failure, as I was breathing so shallowly, as it hurt to breath deeply. So may have starved my ticker of oxygen.
on December 19th I called paramedics after severe left chest pain going right through to rear shoulder blade and then ambulanced to derby hospital 21:55 then spent 10 hours sitting in assessment area got chest scan at 08:45am the next day which at first showed a patch on left lung at the time I was told it was a infection in the sack around the lung and I was discharged around 12:30pm with 6 Doxycycline meds to take so I got home to realise I still had the canula in from the experience.
It wasn’t until a few days later my GP got the discharge letter saying the 1st scan showed I had community acquired pneumonia which then turned into left basal Atelectasis this time and the 2nd scan 05/02/2024 said left basal Atelectasis and given doxycycline but pain still persisted so I had a 3rd scan 06/04/2024 said long standing left basal Atelectasis left base but no medication.
On 12/11/2024 I contacted my GP surgery as the on going pain from the previous was starting to increase again and upto now I still haven’t heard from my GP 15/11/2024.
