Is Lobe infection in my right lung actually pneumonia

I have been ill for 4 weeks now with what I think was originally flu that became a chest infection. Amoxycillin didn’t work for the first week of taking antibiotics so I was switched to Doxycycline. I also had X-ray which showed right lung lobe infection, says my go. I took Doxycycline for 7 days, then had a period of 3 days with nothing before going back to go. Given more Doxycycline to take after 48 hours in case I felt symptoms were getting worse again after what had felt like a bit of a recovery but did notice a pain on my right side which go thinks is pleurisy.

As of today, I am 3 days into my second lot, have worsening pleurisy pain on my right side and a constant burning and discomfort in my oesophagud which I have read could be down to the Doxycycline.

Question- is lobe infection actually pneumonia and I have pleurisy now as a complication? Should I be concerned at the worsening pain despite being on Doxycycline? I can’t get to see my gp all next week and am away on hols abroad from wed am for 4 days and am concerned about what to do. Any advice??

I think it does mean pneumonia yes. Can you can an appointment at a walk in or emergency Drs? I would try and explain that it's still painful, it does take some time for the pain to go though. You can take paracetamol and ibruprofen for the pain. I would see a dr and see if they can give you Clarithromycin for it as that's very good at clearing up pneumonia, Amoxicillin never really does the job. Doxy should help but Clarithromycin will hopefully clear it completely.

Many thanks for the advice. Since posting, I have got an out of hours gp appointment so will mention that.

Hi there Henryho, Iv been given Doxycycline for Pleurisy. The first time was given an injection of antibiotics which resolved it straight awa, the second time Amoxicillin & then the third time after being refused a rescue pack from a new GP for a chest infection got Pleurisy really bad & they wanted to admit me but hate hospitals so was given Doxycycline which took a while but worked in the end. It is so painful as feel like constant stabbing so I make sure you get rid asap. Hope some help to you my friend, take care love Kat 👍🏼
