Hi their I wonder if anyone could help me, i had a bad chest infection in october it took 2 lots of doxycycline, I then in December was told I had pleurisy, I gave up smoking in october and not sure if related but had SO much thick phlem for weeks! Kept waking up feeling like I had a chest imfection, that has slowed down now and I was quite breathless, was once taken in ambulance for shortness of breath had x ray and d dimer n bloods all ok, so a week after i got told i had pleurisy a doc said my airways sounded very narrow, i have had 2 chest x Ray's after the chest infection and that comment and they came back ok, I have chest pains, shoulder back knee, ankle pain, I had b12 checked it's fine I did a spirometery breathing test that was ok I have had a thyroid check it came back low tsh but otherwise everything else normal and needs to be repeated after 6 weeks that repeated test has came back ok, I have bein refferred to phisio they said yesterday they would say fibromyalgia but because iv asked my doc to be seen by respiritory they cant diagnose that till respiritory all clear, because I have gone back to the docs in pain I have also bein refferred to neurology, in pain not really sure what it is I'm asking here just a little guidance in what people are thinking. As a lung cancer patient, I can say that you can lay to rest any fear of lung cancer.

1. You are rather young to have lung cancer, not impossible but very, very improbable.

2. Lung cancer is usually only painful in the later part of stage four.

3. If you had stage one let alone stage four it would show up on an X-ray.

4. Cancer would also probably be indicated in a blood test.

The pains you are describing is possibly Fibromyalgia. A consultant would have to make that diagnosis though.

I agree Fibromyalgia could be the cause but from experience back and to drs with pain , I almost thought DR was not going to believe me fibro was not a condition that had much info on when I started with it !

I actually asked did he think I was making it up 😳😢 he assured me this was not the case it takes quite a while to diagnose phew I thought not going mad . Yes it was Fibromyalgia , I guess if all test seem fine

Then conclusion was Fibromyalgia . I’d talk to your dr about it . I’m not a Dr . Hope you find the answers .

I would Agree with 2Greys. Obviously no one can diagnose online. However a number of symptoms you are having are familiar. I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia last year but that was after eliminating all other possibilities which did take over two years. Fibromyalgia mimics many conditions and it is not easy or straight forward to diagnose. The most common finding is negative tests etc. I thought at one point I was going mad because no one could explain what was happening to me. You have had many test which have come back negative or slightly low which in some ways should reassure you that something really serious as been ruled out. I am sorry to say that it is a waiting game now until you get answers.

Hi gg41 a bad chest infection is in fact pneumonia and this takes a lot out of you no matter how old you are. Also when you stop smoking it sometimes does awful things to your respiratory system in the first few weeks.I am many many years older than you but went through similar and it took months to before I could move on. Take care xxx

It took 3 years for me to get a diagnosis of Fibromyalgia despite regular consultations at the rheumatology department. Many of your symptoms echo mine.

Thankyou for your reply, I know I'm still awaiting appointments I just cant get it out my head that it's not lung cancer

Purely bc my chest is burning shoulder and all over aches pains and spine pain. And I guess was the phlegm actually from quitting smoking

My right lower leg just feels so odd like weak/numb ache I dont know just not normal, my spine pain follows me every minute of the day I guess almost. Thankyou for your time, G

All over aches and pain is typical of Fibromyalgia. You don't mention it and I don't want to have you create symptoms but do you feel mentally 'foggy' ie. lethargic, can't concentrate, can't remember names? That would also suggest Fibro.

Okay maybe I know their both awful but I'm thinking sinister.

Yes I'm lethargic, concentration a few of my friends have mentioned this to me I lack it like I'm bored and onto the next thing which is true.do you have spine pain? Honestly it's like my upper back is pounding! How did your fibro start? Was it infection/stress or anything you can pinpoint.

Do you have any respiritory issues, G

I'm interested in how you are getting on. I've had spine pain for months and I have a cough which doesn't produce phlegm 95 % of the time, although occasionally I really rattle! I get breathless very easily. I've had chest x-ray, blood tests, spirometry (which was just OK) and ecg (fine) I've now been referred to the respiratory clinic at local hospital, appointment is in 2 weeks.

Not what you're looking for?
