Multiple lung diagnoses: feedback please

hi. This is my first post here. I have televisit with my GP in june but meanwhile sitting on these CT scan results: mild emphesima, mild bronchiectasis, atelectasis and chest X-Ray says: hyperinflation. They are following a few nodules ( thus the CT scan) which are ok. Stable. And I have asthma. I know you're not doctors but in your experience what does this look like to you? Symptoms mild. Gave me albuterol and wixela regime. It helps with mild windedness and cough. Many thanks!!

hi and welcome, I’m new here and not a lot of help but my results said mild emphysema and other things. Don’t google like I did, it’s the worst and wrong thing to do. It turns out I’ve got moderate emphysema been told stage 2 but after reading posts on here that means nothing. I will pass on what others have told me and that’s to stop smoking ( if you do ) and keep active, eat healthy. Also ask about pulmonary rehab, i knee nothing about this until I joined this forum and was told by pat. Sure others will answer soon x

Thank you so much for responding. I quit smoking 1985. I don't Google much but sometimes go on a medical site of good reputation here in the states. I of course will discuss with my doctor in june.. Take good care and I wish you all the best.

Welcome to the forum. 50 shades is right. Gentle exercise and healthy eating will help you stay as healthy as possible. If you haven't been offered Pulmonary Rehab ask your surgery about it. So many people on this site have found it helpful, not least because it helps you to take a positive attitude to your illness. Don't wait till June.

You've had great advice already from Alberta56 and 50shadesofgrey.id make a list of anything u want to ask dr/ specialist.Having bronchiectasis, if u have mucous do read up on aluk website on lung clearance - acb with huffing technique is gd.getting it up and out reduces risks of getting infected.also try to avoid viral infections as best u can as often trigger bacterial infections- which cause more irreparable lung damage xx

Just learnt something else there about why we should try and stay clear of getting infections, I thought it just ment we suffer worse. thanks patk1 x

Thank you for your response. Yes, it was a viral infection which followed covid that set up this " flare" or whatever we call it.

Getting something in writing with a lot of names of conditions is not very helpful and can be alarming unless you can get a face to face to have it all explained to you. So yes if you can contact your doctor that would be good. Junes a long way off. I have been told recently that my chest xray shows atelectasis, and what it is an area in the lung/s that is not inflated. I got this after covid. I learnt from my doc this week that you can get that part to work again by doing exercises. So important to keep on the move. 😀

I only use Salbutamol on occasions when mucus is bad and I am coughing up.

Chest Consultant was surprised that I had been offered it by practioner nurse and advised against using it too often.

Sorry I cannot be of any more assistance

Hi...I just read your post here...and I could have written it about myself. I'm 83 now, but I got my asthma diagnosis around age 60 and have mild emphysema and COPD, and the nodules they scanned for three years never changed in size. Like you, I received gifts from smoking for a long time; I quit in 2006. Cold air and cleaning products used to trigger my asthma like crazy...I use Breo in the am and Albuterol at night, and I'm doing well; I feel good.

I'd not heard of Wixela. Do you know what your oxygen level is? I know it is concerning, but I can tell you since asthma has been controlled, after the 'concern' left me, I feel good, and those conditions are not a factor in my life other than taking my meds. I do breathing exercises...my own...just sit, relax and take slow deep breath through your nose..as much as you can to expand your lungs....then out through your mouth. I probably do 15-20 deep breaths a few times a day. You want to keep your lungs as elastic as possible. The first few inhalers I had didn't help...Breo changed my life, and I hope you find your meds work for you. If not, hopefully, it will be easy to try another. Good luck to you...try not to worry too much...I think we have twin lungs!!💞

Hi my "twin lungs"!! Thank you for responding. I think I " know" you from another post...I have GCA!! Wixela is fluticasone propionate and salmeterol inhalation powded...a steroid and bronchodilater combination. My oxygen level was 88 to 92 (98 normal for me) but now its 92-95. Good. I think these new meds are helping. I found your breathing exercises really helpful. Thank you! And for your encouragement. Maybe you remember back a bit on other post I was keeping an illustrated cartoon diary to keep life on a more humorous level. I still do. I think I won't worry as you say..so far everything diagnosed ' mild'...I will keep on keeping on. Thanks and all my best to you!!

Yes, I remember you also. So, we have GCA in common also. Your oxygen level sounds good; 97-98 is usually my normal too. It sounds like those meds are really working for you. That was the key for me also. Yes, keeping on and staying involved in 'something' is good medicine. Take care, good to 'see' you again.💞
