Update on my health status

No reports as yet on the cancer diagnosis follow up. But since being in hospital my COPD as changed to Emphsema, but of course Emphsema is part of the COPD group anyway. Now I have to start all over again with the blood pressure regime. try to get it back to my normal. I read a new cancer unit is being opened in my city local hospital to support people living with cancer , that's good news . We already have an hospice on site nice to see things going forward. Hope everyone is as well as can be and looking forward to another bank holiday at end of month. Stay as well as can be.

It's the waiting around for results that's the worst bit isn't it?

At our surgery they say that if results are fine then they don't contact you and tell us not to contact them to ask for results!

I remember last year being terrified when they got in contact saying that a blood test needed repeating so I had it redone and all was fine.

Waiting around is awful I agree xx

What happens if they don't receive any results so don't chase anything up? Several years ago there was a huge issue with test results going missing with some severe consequences for some patients and the NHS said "don't assume that if you don't hear anything it is because all is fine. You need to be notified of all results whatever they are".

Thank you for that Dixy, remember its not like the old days now the patient has a right to know and a copy to GP who cares for your ongoing community health should get one out of courtesy. I saw my scan results and my granddaughter. Plus written advice and pet scan pictures. Now there is a Biopsy scan too.

Good news about the new unit Katie, just hope you are not going to need it. Bank Holidays are always welcome though I've forgotten what a bank looks like. 😘

It's terrible isn't it the way they have shut the bank branches that weren't making a profit like there's no tomorrow!

I hope the diagnosis, when it comes, is good, positive news. Hope it hurries up. My bank holiday will be spent up in our windmill. Not an entirely suitable hobby for a woman with breath problems. Fingers crossed for a lovely sunny day for you and the rest of our community to do something pleasant, outdoors for preference.

Wow Chris, a windmill! How amazing is that. Xxx❀️

There are several windmills in Essex and neighbouring Suffolk. I love old buildings and it's nice that people can in and explore our mill. xxx

Many years ago when I was 21 I went to the Maud Foster Mill in Boston which I enjoyed and also the Waltham Windmill near Grimsby on a date!

Just before my father died they had gone to a carvery pub near the Windmill and it had been 12 30pm and busy and my father hadn't been happy and I had suggested going early for lunch at 11.30am or late at 2pm!

It was 11.30am on a Sunday morning when he died back in April 2021.

Once I got ridiculed for arranging to do a date at the fishing museum there but you have to meet somewhere!

Hubby said to me what's wrong with those people who criticised and ridiculed you for going out living your life when I said about when I was 21 and got told I was crackers for going out for days out on my own and he says those who ridicule are bullies and cowards!

Alberta56 profile image
Alberta56β€’ in reply toTurnipgirl

Maud Foster's magnificent and currently up for sale if you have a million pounds to spare. I'm glad you took no notice of the cowards and bullies. xxx

I would rather be what I am than them!

They have carried on through life still not being very nice and think they are better than everyone else and abuse and steal from their parents which is the parents fault for spoiling them that they abuse and steal from them!

Hubby says at least I don't abuse anyone and steal from them and think I own them with nasty attitude and how me going out alone didn't do anyone any harm unlike stealing from others!

Fingers crossed all will be fine Katie . I am wondering about people just recently who have been re-diagnosed with their lung condition. You are the third person that has said this in the last couple of days x

katieoxo60 profile image
katieoxo60β€’ in reply toIzb1

Yes Izb1 it is very strange all these changing of diagnosis its been going on for a while now its due to the streaming of people onto Universal Credit & getting rid of inherited old disability benefits. But most of the over 65s are not being changed so don't need their health status for inherited benefits to be reviewed, how ever along with changes in the NHS system this is putting a burden on the Gps etc, not to mention the patient and the cost of all the paperwork etc. All I can say is I still have a lung condition no change and it comes within the original COPD diagnosis. Another thing that is changing is computerised medical records, its come to light that the new system does not allow anyone to look into other hospital records even in your own area just the records of the hospital you go to and I believe after two years its swiped off unless you are still attending. Only the manual records get kept for life. Unless of course the facts I got are not true. It takes an hour to fill in a patient history, time that could be spent establishing the current illness history.

Good morning katieoxo60. Hope you get good news when it comes. The waiting really is the worst part. I rang for an appointment to see the nurse on Monday morning. Asked what for explained I needed to check for Diabetes .And got told I needed to speak to a doctor 1st and was given a telephone consultation for a week on Saturday. No wonder there is 10 hour waiting times at our local A and E. Brian

katieoxo60 profile image
katieoxo60β€’ in reply toBingo88

Hi Brian I know the feeling , the discharge Dr at the local hospital said come to A&E but if its that urgent there are no ambulances. Think one can presume the NHS is in dire straights now. I have that problem with my blood pressure medication. Fingers crossed for you that your appointment covers it . I have a blood test in three weeks but need a doctors appointment to see how things are with a new drug, they want me to take.

Bingo88 profile image
Bingo88β€’ in reply tokatieoxo60

It's so annoying and frustrating. It's as though everything has to double checked to make sure it's needed these days. My father was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes around 65. And I have been asked if I am diabetic for my forthcoming cataract surgery. So I just thought I would get rechecked because things do change. Hope your day goes well. Brian

katieoxo60 profile image
katieoxo60β€’ in reply toBingo88

Best wishes with your appointment , its like blood tests they seem to be never ending when your reach 70. Surely a full screen would be just as cheap as tests for different things . Like me I had a full body pet scan to be sure where any illness lay.

Bingo88 profile image
Bingo88β€’ in reply tokatieoxo60

Yes I can make an appointment for a blood test at my local hospital for checking my kidney function. But I need a green form. Which I have some for that. But don't have any for other tests

katieoxo60 profile image
katieoxo60β€’ in reply toBingo88

That is the main problem for blood tests the necessary form . We have two chemists in our area who do NHS blood tests and my GP does but it takes three weeks to have one done at GPs. As long as it is on the computer I can just book it.

A and E always did have long waits even before the pandemic came along!

When I had blood clots in the lungs back in 2017 I got admitted to the respiratory ward at 11pm having been at a and e since 8am!

A and E are always busy no matter what day and time you go to them!

My friend spent all night in the corridor waiting for a bed but it was in winter and she had pneumonia. My husband spent all night in a cubicle some 20 years ago and he was terminal. Nothings changed my granddaughter broke her lower back bone she spent 23 hours in A&E then was sent home with paracetamol. When I fell in the summer I stayed home , my hip was painful and mighty bruised next morning, but I survived the A&E trauma . Last time I was in A&E I was transferred from a clinic and spent 7 hours in there before I walked out and got a taxi home . I never saw a DR . Just constant BP monitor.

No one likes waiting for results do they or waiting around in general for anything?

katieoxo60 profile image
katieoxo60β€’ in reply toTurnipgirl

L have spent lots of hours at the hospital in the last 12 months, time on tests ect. So what's another few weeks matter. But others might be upset if their cancer is bad , might feel better to know so they can enjoy what life they still can especially if the results mean more treatment or no treatment and suffering the symptoms we are all different .
