I have a question for lung transplant recipients: are you allowed to eat anything fermented?
I may need a transplant in the near future, but I have a histamine problem which is controlled with antihistamines and DAO tablets. The problem is that the DAO tablets are essentially fermented peas and lentils.
Thank you for your responses.

This is a complicated question and one that only the transplant team will be able to advise you on as everyone's case is very individual. I do eat natto which is Japanese fermented soy beans and that is approved by my doctor. Honestly, I don't think you need to worry too much about this right now. The doctors will be able to advise you. I'd imagine the bigger hurdle would be to get through all the testing and get approval.
