Hi Dottie11
I suffer with copd and I always found it hard to cough up any mucus/phlegm. I have tried carboceisteine for a few years but they didnt really help.. About 4 Months ago I had a respiratory nurse visit and she prescribed me acepiro and they worked for me almost straight away. I find they have helped me a lot. I take 1 tablet a day whilst I am producing mucus but then when it clears I just take half a tablet. I tried without but soon needed them again. I hope this helps. x
Hi jillygirl, Im interested in this medication as I make loads of mucus in my throat. For several months I had choking fits and less often wretching during eating. These seem to have eased off now and I seldom get them. But I do have huge amount of mucus around my vocal folds to the extent that sometimes I cant speak properly, really hard work and so very croaky. This is being investigated and Ive had recent barium swallow and this week an MRI to see what could be causing it. Seeing my ENT consultant in 10 days.
So Im wondering if the Acepiro drys you up? My lungs are clear so maybe not appropriate for me. I already get a dry mouth from my asthma/copd meds so couldnt face getting even dryer.
And thanks Dottie, for this post
Hi O2 Trees, I find my mouth isnt as dry as much as when I took the carbocisteine. .
Acepiro certainly helps me clear the mucus. My problem before was I didnt have enough
power to cough the mucus up as I only have one lung. these Acepiro tablets seem to suit me. Check with your consultant but I think you should be okay with them. xxx
Hi dottie yes I have them daily tastes like lemonade and help clear the mucus out .routine inhaler acepiro or nacsys whichever one I an prescribed that month then 15 minutes later acapella device to clear mucus then seretide inhaler to complete my morning routine. If I don't do this I struggle to be clear and mobile
Hi Dottie11. I've been taking them for about a year and a half now, after I mentioned to my consultant that I sing in a choir and I start coughing like crazy, trying to clear my throat, when we start our practice. I always felt 'clogged-up' before, they've really helped me!
Singing good for our lungs too. My gardening days are over due to Immune system too low. Keep going as long as possible. xx
