covid - any benefit from Azithromycin 250

yesterday I spend several hours in car with someone who may now have covid, although she’s only presently showing a sore throat. Someone she spent last weekend with has now tested positive. Do I get any protection from the daily dose of Azithromycin 250. I have problem wearing mask as result of broken flattened nose during war, that NHS has always refused to reconstruct. Thanks, fingers crossed, Jean x

The Azith will help to prevent an infection brewing but to contact gp if you get fever or sputum changes colour. Good luck, I'm crossing my fingers for you

I have been on azithromycin for a few years and it didn't seem to make any difference to me getting covid from my son who was in the same room before he had symptoms

Hope you haven't got covid. I have COPD and on Azithromycin. Carried on when I caught covid. I can not wear a mask. But wear a shield. Not so closed in.

Hello,

Hoping Covid hasn’t been passed onto you. Azithromycin will hopefully offer some you some protection against any viral illness moving towards a bacterial infection. It won’t offer any protection against a purely viral illness though. Hope you stay well.

Hopefully you will be alright as Covid infection can be somewhat erratic. My sister’s friend nursed her daughter through Covid and didn’t get it. I also know someone who can’t wear a mask who works in a supermarket and she hasn’t caught it yet. You may be unlucky, but hopefully you won’t have caught it.

HI! thanks for replies. I still feel ok!! Have a pre arranged telephone consultation today with my PCD consultant, Dr Sullivan and hopefully she can tell me what to do if I detiorate. I keep as reserve Ciprofloxacin, that had to take month ago. It’s not nice living alone, really miss husband who died of prostate cancer 8 years ago because NHS withheld treatment until too late. Love and best wishes to everyone. Jean xxx. and Morrison xxx

I am sure your consultant can arrange antivirals just in case you do get covid which may be beneficial, although you may not have covid fingers crossed x

Fingers crossed. Covid is erratic in whom it infects, so hopefully you won't get it. xxx

The azithromycin wont stop you getting covid of course, but it should hopefully stop you getting a secondary bacterial infection. But sending prayer to the universe that you dont get covid in the first place. xx :) :)

Oh COVID is rotten. I and Anne had it and had to cancel an op. I took nothing - I just waited for it to end, which for me took more that 2 weeks.

AB will help prevent a secondary infection though, horrid illness.

Hope you are lucky and my fingers are crossed for you x

I tested positive last week, thought I had a sinus infection. My Pulmonary doctor has me on Paxlovid, the antiviral meds used to treat covid. Hopefully you will be okay...best wishes!I

COVID is such a fickle beast! I know of several couples, including my husband and me, where one partner has had COVID and the other has had nothing, despite sharing a bed, bathroom, kitchen and living space. It makes no sense to me whatsoever.

As you know, I've been struggling with a viral infection since coming back from holiday two weeks ago. I've continued with my Azithromycin three times a week and - so far - it hasn't developed into a chest infection. Normallly, I would be on Prenisolone and antibiotics by now but started the Azithromycin after Christmas and am wondering if that has helped to keep the bacterial bugs at bay!

I hope you don't get it, or if you do, that it's mild. When I had it, it was no worse than a mild cold. The virus I've had this week which tested negative for COVID has been much more of a problem.

Keep well! xx Moy
