Morning! I’m due to have the usual tests come the New Year; bloods, sputum, urine and t’other end following a particularly persistent chest infection which has gone on since beginning of Nov. 2 lots of Doxy, one Amoxicillin and 2 lots of Pred later, I’m finally turning the corner in terms of actually getting my breath back. My respiratory nurse has changed my inhalers from Fostair to Trimbow plus continuing with Spiriva. She also recommended I take Gaviscon twice a day to stop any potential acid reflux affecting my throat area as my voice gets quite hoarse by the end of the day. (This has really helped I have to say). Using inhalers for the majority of my life apparently results in hoarseness so I’m going to ask about using Uniphyllin as an alternative to inhalers? Has anybody else had a good experience through swapping or are you taking Uniphyllin In addition to your existing inhalers?

uniphyllin
my daughter used to take Uniphyllin , she had to have regular blood tests to check levels .
Then she was changed to a steroid inhaler which suited her better .
Have you tried a spacer with your inhaler , and rinsing your mouth after
I take uniphyllin alongside my inhalers, it really does help. It's a bit of a faff with blood tests until they get the right dose but well worth persevering. I have carbocisteine daily & azithromycin x 3 days per week. Definitely noticed I have less chest infections with the carbocisteine & azithromycin. I have severe emphysema, chronic bronchitis, asthma & bronchiactesis recently diagnosed with cancer just in case my lungs were feeling they had missed something!
Thank you so much for this and I am so sorry to learn of your most recent diagnosis🙁 I truly hope there is something they can do for you x
I'm on uniphyllin as an add on therapy, rather thn replacement
I also am on Uniphyllin ( Theophylline ) 200x morning and 200 at night have been for a number of years together with trim bow and salbutamol I also take Montelukast . Azith three times a week. I have a blood test every six months to see if I am at the correct level for the Uniphyllin. A lot of people can not tolerate this drug, I have been fine with it. One very important point you must not change supplier of this drug without your doctors advise. I was given a change by a chemist who was advised to do so by a doctor when this drug was out o f stock, we had tried 27 chemists. Doctor said ok. I then spent ten days in hospital after a week of feeling rough at home. If you read the instructions it tells you not to change supplier. This drug is still very good for me. I have just been allowed to go onto another drug sorry no name at the minute which is also to help breathing i am a stage 4. Lots of side effects but I am giving it a go.
