anyone on Uniphyllin ?
Hi Rick, I have been taking these for about 5 years now and could not manage without them. I can't say I've had any side effects from them, would suggest you refer to the leaflet if you experience any yourself. I do know you normally have a blood test before you are prescribed them (I did, anyway!) and should never take more than prescribed. I am sure they will help you enormously. Andy
I am on Slo-phylline and have recently had it increased in dosage - needs a blood test to check you are in the therapeutic level - my doctor neglected to do this so I took it for over two years and wasnt!!! Now I am by doubling the dosage. It appears to help - I have had side effects of slight insomnia and also acid reflux. I can cope with the insomnia and am seeing my doctor this week for help with the acid reflux. Otherwise I have found it to help loads.
Good luck
On 300mg twice daily. I get regular blood tests to check the levels of thyroxine. Watch how you take them, as the first two weeks I was very squeamish. Turns out they don't do well with hot tea, but should be swallowed with water. Apart from that, no side effects, and a marked improvement with my breathing
I`ve been on 200g for the last few months with no side effects.
Thanks' Susie that's really good to know.
I take aminophylline 225mg twice a day and doesn't seem to be helping me at all. I'm a bit of a odd one x
Hi rick I have been on uniphylin for 10 years or more they are really good. My only advice is always take them after food as they will damage the lining of your somache other wise and not too close to bedtime. I started on the 200mg and increased to 300mg 6 years ago. the amount you have is based on your body weight and the levels that occur natturally in your body. It will take a few weeks before you notice a difference.
good luck with them hope they work for you.
Theophylline (aka Uniphylline) is an drug that has been around for years. Its a Bronchodilator. It CAN be given intravaneuosly in And E. I'm on 400mg twice a day. Watch out for acid reflux and take it about teatime to give chance to get digested before bedtime. Ask your consulutant or GP to check your blood levels. It can affect the heart too. But IT does woek. Hope I've been of some help.
.
I stopped taking after reading a post on here. I was right to stop and feel much, much better. On a hospital visit I was told by the consultant that they were an old fashioned drug and if I felt ok then it was fine. I feel a lot better off them. I have been told that you should have regular blood test while on this medication, something I never had. I hope they work for you but please insist your GP does regular blood test. I am now having camera checks because of acid reflux and was admitted to hospital Monday, heart rate152, chest infection heart rate due to thyroid??? See initials reply

Hi Rick I took these for just under a month but was taken off them because of constant nausea,it's just a case of try them and see how you get on.
Thanks' wiskas, that's not good is it, only on my fourth one a day so early days yet !
Hi Rick - I'm four weeks out of hospital after an infection. I was prescribed the usual IV steroids and antibiotics and this seemed to do the trick. On leaving hospital I was prescribed Theophylline twice a day in addition to my usual Spiriva and Symbicort and a daily 250 mg of azithromycin. The Theoph gave me terrible stomach and back pain so I was prescribed Somac. After a couple of weeks I decided to quit the Theoph and Somac and the pains disappeared!! Best regards Martin
