Good morning everyone, I was wondering if anyone had developed sore arms and very bad Flu symptoms after having both Flu & COVID vaccines. I got both vaccines 1 week ago , 1 on each arm & I have felt quite unwell since, as I am on 10mg Hydrocortisone tablet in the morning + 5 mg at lunchtime,as I have Adrenal Insufficiency, I was wondering if I should double up on my Hydrocortisone tablets...I was very well until I received those vaccines... I can't get a doctor's appointment for 2 weeks, so I would very much appreciate if anyone has experienced this problem if they could please advise me as to what I could do?.. Thank you all so much in advance... Primrose 123..x

I'd think you need to speak to a professional considering you have adrenal deficiency, as a lay (wo)man I wouldn't know what to suggest by way of advice. I had them both at the same time too, in separate arms. I felt rotten for about 24 hours & sore in the flu arm but no more than expected.

Covid - like the flu vaccination takes two weeks to be effective so its always possible to pick up a virus in that time or previously to having jabs.

Can you call the helpline? 0300 222 5800

I would check with your Consultant . The vaccines are known to flare up some peoples Auto immune conditions. Sorry I have no idea if this is the case for your Adrenal Deficiency. Good luck.

I hope you can get some advice and feel better soon. I’m getting my flu vaccine this week, at the GP surgery. But my mum’s going to be getting both vaccines at once, next week I think, unfortunately she has to go to the hospital for that, which is an epic journey that takes all day, so I’m a bit worried for her.

Hi Primrose,

I had both vaccines at the same time. I was given the new pfizer vaccine, I noticed.

I was very unwell - headache, stomach and blurred vision.

I'm a lot better now, but it took at least 2 weeks to return to normality.

I'd ring 111, if you are worried.

Hi, its quite common for people to feel the way you are experiencing at the moment. Please don't worry yourself. However, if you are feeling really bad you should seek professional advice. You may have caught something unrelated to the vaccines. All GP surgery's should be offering emergency appointments on the day. This may involve a DR telephoning you before deciding whether they need to see you. They can write a prescription if required and send it directly to your chosen pharmacy or for you to collect. If I wasvthe GP I would want to check you over in person. I.e. take your temperature, Blood pressure, pulse etc. Possibly arrange for a blood test. If you cannot get an appointment I would call the NHS on 111 and get advice there. You could go to your local A&E department but you may not be let in. They may only see people who have been directly referred by NHS 111. Don't be fobbed off. In the meantime you could try taking some paracetamol if your medication allows. This will help reduce headaches and fever. Drink plenty of water if you have a temperature. Good luck. I hope you start feeling better soon. When you are feeling better maybe review your GP provider. Speak to friends first and look at the practice website.

So sorry to hear it. Firstly I think we have to acknowledge we’re all very different. I have adrenal insufficiency (from taking symbicort) and take 10mg hydrocortisone daily for life. I’m allowed to double that for a few days if I feel I need to with say a chest infection. I made a conscious decision to have my vaccinations 2 weeks apart so I could separate out any side effects. I thankfully only had a sore arm from both the flu and Moderna jabs. The pharmacist said the flu vaccine isn’t live so you wouldn’t get flu symptoms from it. I find lemsip max very helpful but watch the dosage if you’re taking any paracetamol. Maybe have a conversation with your GP about the option to double up your hydrocortisone in certain circumstances. My endocrinologist also recommended doubling up for a very short time if needed. Hope you get sorted.

Based on listening to friends who have adrenal insufficiency, they “stress dose” when having their Flu and Covid jabs. You can always call 111 and ask for advice, ideally you need to speak to an endocrinologist
