Yes, you're a daft bat 🤪. There are other things causing stroke as well as high BP. Take your BP regularly so that you're aware of what its doing, we all need to know. . If you dont have an automatic machine they're about £45 (Christmas is coming soon)
. Mine is Omron, the same brand as the gp uses (but it's mostly in the cupboard) . Follow instructions though and don't take it after a cuppa or a meal!
I'm a daft bat too !
Hi Germantara
I’m sorry, I missed you previous post about your nosebleed. That sounded awful and very frightening for you. I can imagine your blood pressure was high in hospital given those circumstances! Your adrenaline levels must have been through the roof and that would certainly put your blood pressure up. That’s why the hospital doctor wasn’t particularly concerned about it, I suspect.
It must all have come as a big shock to you and so I’m not surprised you feel jittery and anxious after all that, I would, too. Your sister is right in that untreated high blood pressure can lead to a stroke but that would be high pressure that has been raging away for a long time, not just a random event. Do you get your blood pressure checked very often? If you don’t then, as Peege suggests, it might be worth investing in your own machine so you can take some readings and just keep an eye on it. I would wait until you’ve fully recovered from your nosebleed episode, though and are feeling calmer, there’s no rush.
If it does transpire your blood pressure is a bit higher than desired please don’t worry. It is a very common condition as we get older and there are plenty of medications available to treat it if needed, as well as lifestyle changes you can make that will help to bring things back in control..
Do let us know how you get on. All the best to you, TC
Please try not to worry. High blood pressure (which affects a lot of us as we get older), will not necessarily have a bad effect on you. It was probably high in hospital because you were stressed. Monitor it regularly, as the others have suggested. I hope it will come down once you are not so stressed. (PS. what doctors call 'white coat syndrome' means that your bp goes up when a doctor or nurse tries to take it.)
