My partner is housebound due to a fall. I'm his carer. We need a flu and covid jab. Nobody seems to know who does it. Gp says they dont send there nurses to give it. The district nurse has no idea. I've hit a wall. Can anyone give advice.

Not sure where you are based . In our area some people are receiving letters some are receiving a text to book an appointment. There is a phone number on the letter.
So hopefully you will get a letter soon or if you know somebody that has received the letter in your area they could give you the phone number.
We have received a letter but need someone to come in as my partner cant walk. He's going downhill fast.All the numbers I call are for able bodied people. Nobody seems to know who vaccinated housebound.
In my area ( greater glasgow) they say they hope to have all housebound vaccinated by end of December. Unless you are also housebound I believe you would need to go to a centre for yours .Maybe phone the health board for your area rather than the covid team I presume they make up the vaccination plan and would know. Sorry my advice is not great but every health board accross the Country seem to have different plans. Good luck

I've been in contact with various people today and they all say it's the responsibility of GP. Waiting to hear from her anytime tomorrow. I know sirona. I've had emergency carers come from there when my partner fell and led to this situation. There very good. Hopefully it will be resolved tomorrow
In my area it is the district nurses who do it, but if they have to be asked to attend by the GP. Have you tried 111? They should be able to give advice and maybe arrange something?
Hi. I stay in North Lanarkshire. Here GP practices don't give vaccinations they are now given by the vaccination team . You could maybe phone your local health board and asked to be put through to them? That's what I done as I'm due another pneumococcal vaccine 🌹
So sorry you are having this trouble Toby14. It occurred to me that they may think your partner is ok as he doesn't go outside, and that as you who DO go outside will be protected then there is no problem. If this gets said to you DO NOT ACCEPT IT!! In any case the jab doesnt give total protection but means that you won't get it as badly. So you could still give it to your partner.
I would advise phoning the practice manager, and if by any chance this gets said to you, tell them that under Article 8 of the Human Rights Act you have the right to a private and family life. But this right is being denied to you both if friends and family are not able to safely (from your partner's point of view) come and visit.
Ive written this as it was my first thought that they may use your partner's housebound status as an excuse. I then read your post to my partner without comment, and she said exactly the same (and she used to work in NHS policy at quite a high level, now retired). Please don't give up. You could also call the forum helpline (0300 222 5800 ) and get their advice. Good luck!
PS: If this seems a bit melodramatic, just remember that we need to do whatever it takes to look after and protect ourselves and our families.

Can he get in the car? At most vaccination centres people can be vaccinated in the passenger seat of the car as long as the arm is accessible.
Addendum.......I've just read above that he's housebound. In that case you are more vulnerable to catching covid and passing it on to your partner. Ring 119
speak to your practice manager. They are supposed to advise the pcn and local vaccination teams of any homebound parients they have. In my experience the whole thing is such a mess that you have to chivvy them along.

NHS says from 11th September care homes and the housebound will be offered jabs . It also says ring 119 if you need further advise.
NHS England site says from 11th September jabs will be offered to residents in care homes and the housebound. It tells you to look at NHS website or ring 119 or more information.
Is your your partner registered with the doctors as housebound, if so they should have it at home. Check with the surgery.
I’m sorry you’re having this difficulty. In my area (Herefordshire) there are several locally-based volunteer organisations that will take people to doctor and hospital appointments who couldn’t otherwise manage it. The county council has a list of all of them. That’s one solution you could try. Or you could Google “community support groups near me” or use the AI assistant on your browser (they all seem to have them now) and type in something like “I need to find community support or volunteers in this area who will be able to take me for a medical appointment.”
I volunteer as one of these drivers for the Royal Voluntary Service. As it happens, I’m driving our wheelchair ambulance on just such a job this very afternoon.

Generally district nurses don't do vaccinations Chris. We have a district nurse sharing our house and this is from her.
Have you tried phoning 119 the covid booking number? They might be able to help and explain you also need the flu jab doing at the same time x
I have a wonderful pharmacist who visits me at home to give me a jab. I realise that not many do, but if you have an independent pharmacist it’s worth a try
It is the responsibility of the GP to sort this out for you either through District Nurses or Nurse from the Practice.
Hi Toby14. I was saddened to hear of you and your partner's challenges. The NHS shoud not be in such a mess that information about home vacs is not given. I'm housebound but I ordered the jab from my GP surgery. To my pleasant surprise, last Tuesday, my GP visited me at home and gave me the covid jab in one shoulder and my flu jab in the other. She's a lovely person.
We've just been told that our GP surgeries aren't doing covid jabs. They expect us to get them from our pharmacies.

VULNERABLE PEOPLE ARE TOP PRIORITY I THINK THOUGH I DO KNOW A FEWPEOPLE WHO ARE NOT VULNERSABLE AND THEY HAVE HAD THEIR INJECTIONS.
I RANG 119 ON A THURSDAY TOLD THEM WHICH CHEMIST I WANTED TO GO TO AND GOT AN APPOINTRMENT FOR THE SATURDAY.
RING 119 AND EXPLAIN DIFFICULTY AND THEY CAN/SHOULD POINT YOU IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION. FAILING THAT YOUR NHS OFFICE - 119 SHOULD BE ABLE TO GIVE YOU THE TELEPHONE NUMBER IF THEY CAN'T HELP - AND EXPLAIN.

What a charade phoned 119 with no luck as they didnt have a phone number for my area for housebound people. I phoned 111 and they said the GP is responsible and sent them a email for referalfor a visit. I just phoned receptionist to confirm and she said the system said were not registered as housebound. She sent the message to our GP for a visit and now I have to wait a few days for her to call. They already know our situation. I'm exasperated but hopefully this time I will get some action.

My husband is also housebound but GP "forgets" this when wanting blood tests so we have to wait a few weeks for the surgery to arrange for the District Nurse to call to take the blood. If a urine sample is needed I have to take it down to the Surgery myself and I have COPD/Asthma/Sciatica/hip needs replacing/walk with two sticks or three wheeled walker ---- nor am I classified as housebound either.

After 3 days haggling with GP nurses act I secured his flu and covid jabs into the home. They are comeing on October 17th. Like you I only have one lung ,asthma and bronchitis. Chronic pain as well. They wont do me as I can still walk.zOm booked in at a clinic. THEY ARE PETTY and show no compassion towards us. Thankyou for your help at least my partner will be protected soon. All the best.Toby14

Yes madness. I'm disabled but not housebound. I find walking difficult. They could have given me my jab with partner but they chose to let me struggle to the clinc. For the sake of a couple of minutes. It's just spiteful and nasty. But what goes round as we know the proverb comes back on them and they might be in my position one day.
Sorry for delay in reply , there is supposed to be a service for housebound patients but sadly its not working. I would recommend contacting social services for advice. Or ringing your own GP for a home visit as you cannot get him to the surgery yourself and as a carer are entitled to your needs to be met. Maybe you might have got it sorted by now.
