Carbosteine not working

When I first started to take carbosistine, it made my phlegm runner and easier to cough up. I now take three times two per day, it's not runny anymore. I dare not stop taking it, as I have been very unwell a few times in the past. Does anyone know if it eventually stops working as well, when you have been taking it for long period. Thank you.

Could it be for some other reason? IE drinking less fluid or perspiring more?

Many years ago I was prescribed and did well on 2x4 times daily. Some chump decided that 6 daily was the max dose. The phlegm thickened and of course it sat in my lungs causing infection. It is easy enough to purchase online and so I went back to the original 8 per day. My consultant agreed with my action when I told him. For long hols abroad which I find beneficial iI take nac to reduce meds luggage and consequently get in front with my prescribed carbo reducing the amount I need to purchase. Only my opinion but if something improves my breathing I do it

I think you need to talk to your GP or consultant. They might be able to suggest something.

Do you, by any chance, also suffer with hay fever? Mine is bad this year and the Carbosisteine isn't completely clearing the phlegm at the moment. I've been put on stronger antihistamines and a steroid nasal spray but there is still some phlegm rattling about.

If it doesn't seem to be doing the job, why not have a chat with your GP or pharmacist to find out if there's something else that might help?

Also, it's important to drink plenty as I believe this helps the carbosisteine to do its job.
