I could not make my mind up which to post - I took this shot in to bright of a light, but the one i have just finished Spring/Wild flowers will have to wait, as talking these in the sunlight is a gamblr.

Lovely photo . Paining or photography are both art forms, i really struggle at times to get a light - A light that gives a true reflection no glare but enough bright.

that is brilliant . love the concentration of the colours .i I didnt really like the previous ones with scattered objects. i know the french artists used that technique a lot but this is a step further. more please

Thank you for you interesting post, I have gone through stages, watercolor I loved, Oils I did not.

I have a painting I have never shown because of a tiny tear in canvas, a year ago but the same arrangement - I wont post a pic with even a tiny amoont of damage - I will post thing in reply to one of your answers, see what you think, 2 swans in this pick from when I first started my painting again.

To you question. This paining was Acrylic on an 11x16 back-framed canvas.

Colors Permanent Yellow. Mid Yellow - Violet, Cad Red Orange , Ultramarine Blue and Phthalocyanine Green and Titanium White.

you said you liked watercolours but not oils . i agree and found i coul d use acrylics like watercolours as well but they are so much better when used straight to get the colours in a strong block. Ilike your scarlet lady too . I havent been able to do anyy painting since covid halted everything and our painting group hasnt met since . Strange b ut I bought some cnarcoa lpencils and some graphite pencils in The Works shop last week so must start doing something again.

I did not like OIL;s for two reasons - they are slow drying, very slow in some cases ulike Acrylic. Get it wrong abd picture will go muddy, Colors are nice though.

Secondly they smell and did not fit in with my COPD, even withought COPD they stink ;

If you have Graphite pencils you can practice - I do, it's fun. Shame your group broke up..

agree . used to go to large room to meet and paint and and any body using oil was a problem , equally we have to avoid pastels too and i do like those .

That's beautiful Ern and I love dragon flies (and all the other tiny wildlife). When I was less breathless etc I used to grow wildflowers in my tiny garden for the bugs and bees. Now it's beyond me and is just a mess! 🙄. Thank you for sharing this lovely work of art 🙂xxx

Hi Ern, I very much like the pattern of strokes in this painting: the mix of blue and green in the grass, the continued stroke patterns against the mauve, and the yellow strokes around the sun. I think Matisse used a lot of patterns in the rooms that he painted. Very effective. As most readers have said here, this is a very warm and life affirming painting. I'd like to see your paintings in a hospital setting; so often clinically white - a splash of colour would cheer up many patients. Keep up the good work and I am looking forward to the next one.

Thank you for your reply. Matisse was a master of color - 'The Joy of Life' springs to mind. brush strokes I used to try and copy from Van Gogh would you believe when i painted in watercolor . I agree over hospitals, that white. You will see another painting soon probably one with a much color, called The Spring Garden - I enjoyed painting that - Although I also like painting space and nebula paintings, take care,

thanks for lovely pictures, well done. When left school won the art prize but since not done any, lack of time and earning living! At 88 I’m still too busy, live alone and other things intervene, just finished nebuliser and breathing exercises. Jean

Well done for prize Jean / I had the same problem in the 90s. our youngest daughter came late in life, at that time being self employed fuchsia grower proved not enough income to cope, was established watercolor painter, I had to give it up I contracted out my labour to a plant nursery and hours were long. - I really on'y picked up with any volume 2 years ago, this time with acrylics.. I am 78 but lot of time took up with hospital appointments - but I find time to paint, garden my other hobby is suffering in this miserable weather, we are canceling a 4 day break forecast rain every day.. you grew fuchsia s ! thats why you paint so many flowers ?

i lost nearly all my fuchsias last winter and had one small cutting in stale compst that i kept going but it is sad . called Carla ?? Jones . beautiful shape and pale colours . cannot get any fresh compost as have to ask neighbours to get it and also cannot get it delivered. i also have another struggling but usually produces late flowers, Called Thalia . more tropical ,

Hi. Thalia a tropical ( Triphylla ) with long orange flowers. Not easy to keep overwinter. I am unsure about F Carla Jones - I don't know that one but I see your question marks. There are very hardy fuchsias that will survive most winters.

I grow hardy variety's like Prosperity Garden New and Army Nurse .
