SHEFFIELD APPOINTMENT ON 1/2/2022 procedure

Well I had my appointment on first for the procedure to look at my heart because they said a ventricle was a bit enlarged

I had to be sedated & I was numbed up to the hilt because they put a needle in me twice with a little camera & I still felt a little pain & instead of starting in my groin -they chose the shortest route - my jugular vein of all places

It took about about half an hour ish although it felt like forever -I wanted to have my music in my ears to distract me but instead they were good enough to put some 80s music on for me in the background & I had a lot of hands to hold & BOY was I terrified

The doctors said it was it was a success to the extent that they got the info they needed & I had to do a breathing test before hand -which wasnt on my letter so i thought that was a bit cheeky to sneak a test in without telling me first but I blew succesful blows (or so the girl said)-enough to get info

So I was stressed like hell & so was mum & dad

We werent very impressed at the service our arranged ambulance -we ordered it for 6pm & so we expected it around then - but it got to 7pm & later & later & still no sign of it Poor mum had to keep chasing them up &we were afraid we were going to be stranded in sheffield

Around 10pm it FINALLY TURNED UP!! When people book it for a time -to them it means LEAVE THE HOSPITAL at the time not be there by the arranged time-well that angered all 3 of us

We enquired to see if we could go home in the Sheffield ambulances but they refused point blank because we werent in their jurisdiction & under Manchester so could only use the Manchester services

By the time I got home I was knackered & washed out because I was in hospital again for my oxygen levels dropping discharged then 24 hours at home before going off to Sheffield

Im glad its over though

What great news that the procedure was a success and the doctors got the information. You are confusing patient transport ambulances with a taxi service. They have to transport lots of patients and have to manage their drivers. I use them all the time for the Royal Brompton and only last week got me to the hospital at 12,25 for a 2.30 appointment. I was seen at 2 and finished by 2.30 and had to hang around until 5.15 for the ambulance home. It was a pain but I am grateful for the free transport even though it meant me being out of my house for more than 8 hours for a 30 minutes appointment.

At least that's over and they have the info they need. My mom uses hospital transport and because they transport more than one patient there is a lot of waiting about. Mom takes snacks and loves chatting to people. Do you have volunteer drivers in your area? They do charge mileage but there is no hanging about.

That sounds gruesome. I hope it will prove worthwhile in the end. I sympathise over the ambulance- I've seen people hanging about for a very long time. As for the jugular vein- it makes me think of vampires, so I don't know how I would have reacted. You were braver than i would have been.Ii hope the next stage in your treatment is less of an ordeal.

Well done for getting through a day like that, you will need a couple of days rest to get over it. Wasn't that fantastic that your mum and dad went with you and must have tired them out as well, are they both fit and well? Lets hope that the information they have gleaned from you gives them enough information to treat you. When I had my shoulder op, just as they were putting me out they told me I would be having a nerve block that was put into my neck and that was very sore when everything wore off a couple of days later, I hope yours isnt. I haven't used hospital transport but my mum did and it was a pain and just adds to the long day you had. Rest up now and take it easy x
