Switch from Azithromycin to Doxycycline

Hi, I have severe asthma and pseudomonas infection for which I’ve been put back on Colomycin nebs following an infection that wouldn’t resolve, but did after I asked my GP if we could try a course of cipro (they didn’t try that first as sputum sample didn’t show pseudomonas). I’ve had to switch from Azithromycin to Doxycycline due to an interaction with my Lupus SLE meds and I just wondered if anybody else has had to switch to a different prophylactic antibiotic and noticed they’re more symptomatic. I’ve noticed since the change that I’m producing more mucus and also feel more breathless. I had my first appointment with Respiratory Physio last Friday to see if they can help me with shifting mucus as it’s really sticky and stubborn despite having NACSYS instead of carbosisteine. I have saline nebs alongside salbutamol and ipatropium bromide nebs. So I’m not sure if the extra mucus is due to the switch in antibiotics or if something else is going on as when they listened to my chest, they said they could hear something on my right side and asked if that’s where infections usually settle/start first, but didn’t say I needed to see my GP. I also had my 4th covid jab on Friday (immunocompromised) - thanks

Hi Lottie36I have vasculitis so also immunosupressed and had pseudomonas infections. My Bronchiectasis specialist told me that you have to hit the pseudomonas hard before using the colomycin. I had two weeks of iv antibiotics, done at home, and then went onto the colomycin. This seems to have kept the pseudomonas at bay for nearly five years. Doxycycline doesn’t work for me and I have stomach problems with it. I have had co trixamole and azathromycine three times a week but I’m not sure they helped and don’t take them anymore. As far as I am aware ciproflaxin is the only oral antibiotic that will work on pseudomonas. I hope you can resolve your problems soon.
