Night times

Have undiagnosed COPD - managing ok in the daytime with walking and swimming but my nights are very disturbed x I take my inhaler before I sleep but wake up several times during the night - annoyingly find it difficult to go back to sleep ! Often cough bringing up phlegm . Once awake in the morning I feel fine for the day - I take my inhaler on waking too. Is it lack of oxygen at night or just my incessant anxiety? Any advice much appreciated.

I wonder if it is the need to clear the phlegm that wakes you. You sound to be doing very well during the day. It may help if you can prop yourself up in bed it will ease the problem, assuming that you sleep lying fairly flat. It is possible that anxiety has something to do with your difficulty in getting back to sleep. Listening to the radio may help to take your mind off it and help you drift off again. Hope these suggestions help.

Welcome Ivanovna lovely to meet you. I am not quite sure what can cause this, but maybe someone will come along and be able to help you. My advice is to ask your GP forore tests as you really need to know what this is. Please keep us updated. Have a lovely day and take care 😊 Bernadette and Jack 🐕 xxxxxx

I have severe copd. But still doing reasonably well at present with getting out and about. I asked my respiratory nurse about an adjustable bed and she said it wouldn't make any difference . So didn't bother. I do sleep well to be honest

Hi,I would ask your doctor to try you on Carbocisten it has helped my phlegm and also allows me to sleep. I have COPD/bronchiectasis and I also have sleep apnoea.I hope this helps you. I have been on Carbocisten for few years and have found them to work on the phlegm on my lungs they work for me,I hope they do for you.It does not work straight away but after a couple of nights they start to work.Good luck.
