Carbosisteine

I rarely post on this forum but was wondering if anyone here is taking Carbosisteine for phlegm thinning and if so are you finding improvement in the removal and or reduction in the amount of phlegm from the lungs, I say this because my Dr put me on this med about 6 months ago and I’m finding it extremely beneficial n phlegm control. I take 2 X 2 tabs a day. It’s a boon in the morning in clearing the lung. I wish myDr had put me on it years ago. I’m just asking.

Merry Xmas and a healthy New Year to you all.

Yes, definitely. I've been on it since 2013. I know it still works when in summer months I try to lower my dose (really so I can keep some in 'stock' just incase there's a breakdown in supply), I never manage it, start coughing & coughing by mid morning without it - and I only have a little mucus! Its a godsend, doesn't work for everyone though so we're the lucky ones

Yes carbocistene works well. Had initial bad reaction but gradually taught my body to tolerate, now take two twice daily, together with Nebulising salbutamol, plus ultribro breezhaler, and occasional Ventolin. Yes hope we all have Merry Christmas and Happier New Year.

Wonder if it would help my breathlessness. I cough up phlegm mostly at night, on and o ff during the day, but get so breathless just walking round the house.

Hi Lyd, I’m not qualified to answer your Q nor I suppose any one else here. I fond it reduces the amount of Phlegm produced and thins the rest. I can only say see your Dr and ask him. Good luck

I've been on it for a few years. Not sure if it's really helping, but something's keeping the mucus levels down and I haven't had an infection for a year and a half.

Yes! Can definitely notice the difference 😊

Hi gillfrog, spot on, exactly, it took nearly a month for them to kick in with me. I nearly gave up but pesivered with them an hey bingo they’re working. Why didn’t theDr warn me it could take time to feel the benefit and why didn’t they prescribe them years ago. They have negligible side effects. They’ve upgraded my life

I was on carbocisteine for several years and it gradually became ineffective with my mucus problem. I changed to asafoetida oil vapour inhalations and these have given excellent results. I also do a lot of exercise in my own gym and this helps as well.

Hi. I’ve taken it for years now. Wonder drug! I take 1 pill twice a day which is enough to keep the mucus at bay. I suffered for years with the mucus in my throat which I couldn’t shift. Now, no problem. My Respiratory nurse suggested I try without it. I tried but only lasted a couple of days before I took it again.
