Brown-coloured phlegm & Aspergillus fumigatus infection

Does anyone have experience with brown phlegm and Aspergillus fumigatus infection?

I’ve been struggling with brown-coloured phlegm and bronchiectasis for most of 2024. Initially, I was told that bronchiectasis was the cause, but a sputum sample later revealed a fungal infection "Aspergillus fumigatus".

If you have experience with this, do you know of any natural methods to help eradicate the fungal infection? My scan shows minimal infection, yet I’m still producing brown phlegm.

I would greatly appreciate any advice or support.

Have a look at the NHS website:- google.com/url?sa=t&source=...

I don't believe there's a natural way to get rid of it, prescribed antifungals keep it under control

Pretty sure there's no cure, only keeping the levels down with antifungals. I was told its similar to MRSA in the we all have it but huge problems arise when/if we're immunocompromised (mrsa) or allergic to aspergillus. As I mentioned, it showed up in all my sputum tests but very fortunately I'm not badly allergic to it.

Hello,

I can’t help as I haven’t experienced this issue. Hope you get accurate and effective treatment soon.

The Asthma Lung U.K. helpline is very supportive. They may be able to help you.

Go well,

as mentioned there are no natural treatment for aspergillosis only anti fungals, Aspergillus spores are airborne and everywhere so Aspergillus in the respiratory system is common. This does not mean that it has developed into aspergillosis diagnosis for which requires a combination of X-ray, CT scan, broncoscopy, biopsy and specialist blood tests. It is a rare disease and requires experienced doctors, for more info the NHS website Aspergillosis.org. Beware Dr Google there is a lot of miss information about

I would speak with the helpline 0300 222 5800 they maybe able to advise you. From what I have read this is down to your immune system not being able to fight this fungus. I don't think there are any natural methods to deal with this but it wouldn't harm to keep your immune system in good condition. I hope the hospital have put you on antifungal medication, you need to get this treated promptly x
