My sister has high blood pressure & recently developed a cough & constantly bringing up white & green phlegm, she was prescribed a 10 day course of clarithromyisin anti biotics. & has now finished the course, she is still constantly clearing phlegm & has a constant blocked nose & ringing in her ears.. What could be causing this? Apparently the 10 day course of clarithromyisin has not helped.. Has anyone else experienced this? All answers & advice most welcome..Thank you..

It was a 5 day course of clarithromyisin,2 per day my sister was prescribed, not a 10 day course.( my error)
How is she on rhem? They are one of the drugs I just couldn't tolerate.
She seems fine on them Aingeful, I guess it's just trial & error with all medications, some will suit one person but not another..My sister has now been prescribed another course of antibiotics so hopefully that should help her.. I hope all good & well with you too Aingeful,& I wish you good health & much happiness for the future..Love & God bless you always..x
She needs to go back to the gp. Clearly the course given hasn’t been long enough and needs more or a different antibiotic. It usually takes me several courses of antibiotics and steroids to clear infection. I understand her gp will have hoped that short course prescribed will have done the trick but hasn’t so she needs to go back.Because of bank holiday in England she should call 111 who can organise an out of hours doctor to talk to her. She certainly shouldn’t be waiting until Tuesday!
Thank you so much Bevvy for your kind reply, my sister & I followed your sound advice & contacted 111, my sister was prescribed a further course of antibiotics which she has now started on & hopefully as the week progresses she should feel much better.. I hope all good & well with you too Bevvy,& I wish you good health & much happiness for the future...Love & God bless you always..x
my gp always prescribes me 2 weeks of antibiotics for a chest infection , so hopefully your sister will soon be feeling improved,
Yes Nanny1086, my sister has now been prescribed a further course of antibiotics, so hopefully that should help.. Thank you Nanny1086 for your kind reply, I hope all good & well with you too,& I wish you good health& much happiness for the future Love,& God bless you always..x
Thats a real shame primrose123. IMO Clarithromycin is a very good antibiotic, it usually sorts me out if I've a chest infection. Your sis hasn't been taking it long enough. Most of the lung patients/ members here - including me - wouldn't accept less than a 10 course. If, 2 days before the abs are finishing then I'd be calling doc to tell them. Hopefully they'll prescibe another week or at least a 10 day, preferably 2 week course of another antibiotic. I cant tell you how important it is for her to get rid of this infection as it can lead to other things if not correctly treated and I agree with Bevvy, she shouldn'twait untilTuesday. Best wishes to her for a full recovery
Many thanks peege for your most helpful & kind reply, my sister & I followed you & Bevvy's sound advice & contacted 111, & the doctor prescribed a further course of antibiotics which she has now started on,hopefully that should make her feel much better.. I've just remembered.....with Clarithromycin you're supposed to cease Statins for the duration of the course if prescribed and and with Doxycycline youre supposed to stay out of the sun! ××
Thank you peege for giving me that very important information, but fortunately my sister is not on any of the medication that you mentioned peege, she is certainly starting to look & feel better with the extra course of Clarithromyicin, many thanks again peege for your advice, help & concern you made both of us feel so much better..x
