Gerd and IPV fibrosis link

I have been diagnosed with an asthma type of allergy and been given Fostain inhaler which has helped the wheezing and tightness in my chest. I also have scarring on my lungs possibly caused by pneumonia in the past and been told 10 years ago I might have IPV Fibrosis in later life. I am recently getting very bad stomach acid with tightness in my chest and have a rattle in my throat. On investigating I find that the Fostain inhaler can cause GERD and Gerd can cause IPV Fibrosis, (not something you ever want to have). How do you get rid of Gerd?

Hi Valsie, I started by sucking on Gavison? anti acid tablets. I had to have them after each meal. Then the GP put me on Lanzoprosole 15 mg or doubling up to 30 mg if I experience symptoms. I very rarely have any trouble now.

I have to take omeprazole daily to counteract GERD. There is a diet to reduce it but it is a bit restrictive. Some people swear by slippery elm powder, but I struggled to take that in powdered form and it was not as effective as the prescribed omeprazole. It's possible to buy omeprazole from the chemist but it is quite expensive.

Thanks Ergendl, do you have any side affects from this medication? I read you shouldn’t take it for prolonged periods of time.

I haven't had any problems with omeprazole or with indapamide. My GP used to prescribe me ranitidine for GERD but stopped prescribing that when he diagnosed my COPD.

Thank you. I will try the Omeprazole.
