Just out of curiosity does anyone else get very bloated under the boob area .?

When i take my inhaler i always feel ive got trapped wind in middle of my chest. Burping is good but why does this happen?

Ive also got gerd/ refux and wonder if that might be the cause

No. Do you breath from your diaphragm (abdomen moves) or your upper chest (your shoulders move)?

Bloating is a possible side effect of muscarinic inhalers like Spiriva, Eklira Genuair, SeeBri etc. which work by relaxing the smooth muscle in the lung airways keeping the passageways dilated.

In some people the effect spills over also affecting the smooth muscle high in the gut interfering with peristaltic wave and causing a temporary build up of bolus, bloating & gas.

It's supposed to be rare, but several on here have reported the effect.

I have never seen it formally stated but I suspect it's the reason many on here also suffer reflux as the upper stomach sphincter muscle may also be affected.

I switched from Spiriva to Formoterol which doesn't cause the bloating with me.

You may need the support of your respiratory nurse or GP to try to find one that helps your breathing but doesn't cause bloating. Worth the effort 'cos I know how uncomfortable it becomes.

Best wishes

Yes, sometimes. I am not particularly well endowed in the boob area but I do get bloated. Have a look at your diet. We are advised to eat so many vegetables in the day but It's not a one size fits all. I stick to a fairly bland but quite interesting diet. It is a shame but bread gets me everytime

Yes bread gets me aswell ! At first i was diagnosed with asthma (2009) and tried all sorts of steroid inhalers but they all caused me problems. Since having a reverse spirometry which showed no asthma ive been using genuaire dualkir which is good.

I cant seem to tolerate any steroid inhalers as i find my breathing esp when active , gets worse.

Dualkir also has lama aclidinium bromide content as does eklira mentioned in my previous reply, but has formoterol in combination, hence the 'dual' bit of the name.

More of a moob than a boob for me 😛 I don’t suffer with this but I do get a bloated stomach fairly regularly.

My late husband Bob had severe COPD and bloated when he drank cows milk or had products with cows milk in. He got very breathless when he had bleached flour products. We found out by accident when we stayed in Rhodes in the 1980s. Then, most of the milk used there was goat or sheep milk, and the bread was made with unbleached flour, so a lovely pale gold colour.
