My husband has cystic fibrosis and has been told he need oxygen 24/7 now. We are due to go to Germany in 10 days, where do we even start to organise plane oxygen and to organise oxygen when in Germany? Can anyone help?

Hi

At this short notice your only option may be to hire a portable or transportable oxygen concentrator depending on your requirements.

Check your airlines website or contact them direct. As to there policy.

You can’t take NHS equipment outside the U.K.

Very few airlines now carry inflight oxygen.

For hired equipment try

Thank you that's really helpful. My husband has taken this news really badly and it's made him really down, anything I can do to make this journey happen I will do.

The blf help line will be able to advise you as well as your oxygen supplier. Safe journey

you will also need a fit to fly test to get a letter for the airline to allow you yo fly with oxygen ,and whether you will get that done in ten days I don't know.

good luck . I do hope you sort it out,but don't get your hopes up just in case. Have you asked his doctor at hospital about flying ?

Drs are fine with him flying and are happy to complete the relevant forms, have heard from the airline so we are on top of that. Just need the companies who hire the oxygen concentrator to get back to me. He's really down as he thinks life is not going to be the same at all...I need to try and show him it's gonna be ok. So need to make this happen!

I think that you have left it far too late to organise anything. You will need to contact the Airline, who will advise about in-flight possibilities. You will also need to arrange oxygen at your destination. Are your travel insurers aware of the situation? If not, you will need to inform them

We know it's late! We have only just found out he needs constant oxygen..hence the desperate ask!

Oh dear! Travelling with oxygen very hard and it seems all obstacles get put in our way. Have you considered a coach or train? I have a friend that comes most weekends to London by coach from Holland. I know it’s Germany that you want to visit, it’s only a suggestion. I really hope you can get sorted. Please tell your husband not to be too upset (I can imagine how he’s feeling) hopefully you can both sort something. x

That’s great news! I had nothing helpful to contribute but wondered how you were getting on with everything. I hope you have a good time in Germany. Best wishes to you and your husband.
