Coronavirus and IPF

I am in the latter stages of IPF and have carers visit me several times each day. Clearly, I am at risk of contracting Coronavirus. I wouldn’t survive it because of my reduced lung capacity. Typically, would my lungs just fill with fluid – pneumonia – and would the process take several hours or several days? I have looked online for information about this, but cannot find anything.

Hi HuwieHex, I doubt anyone could really answer your question as nobody knows for certain.

I’m thinking of you and hope you don’t get the virus. Xxxx

Oh HuwieHex, this is very difficult time and you are obviously so worried. I think there are many questions we all have and no real answers. Try not to concentrate too much on what is happening around us as it will have an adverse affect on your spirits. As this is a new experience for us all we just have to take each day as it comes. We are all very anxious so you are not alone. Best wishes, Chrys x

The really confusing aspect of this virus is how unpredictable it is. My brother is in isolation at the moment due to him helping an 88 year old man over the road. He like you is a very high risk. But it as been confirmed he as the virus but it is not the virus that put him in hospital but his other conditions. He is actually showing few symptoms. Obviously my brother feared the worst when he went into hospital. However this manas been texting every day a d appears to be doing OK. My advice would be to take each day as it comes. Yes the virus can kill but not in the majority of cases no matter what at risk group you are in. Good luck.
