Impressionist Flowers. In Natures Garden.

I was not great with my breathing so I thought I would use one of those canvas boards. Anne sanded it for me, and I used three coats of gesso. If this was normal, would cost as gesso is not cheap.

Impressionisum is my favoutite was to paint. I placed a sky and did not have a clue, so what I painted I followed my head.

I will soon do an impression of one of the best, easy to me inspired by Monet.

wow wow wow I love this painting, I love the colours of the sky, and the flowers look 3 dimensional. The mountains remind me of something too, maybe a picture I’ve got or a photo I’ve taken… I’ll have to think about it.

I have to ask, what is gesso? It must have been worth the price because this painting looks great.

Ern007 profile image
Ern007 in reply to HungryHufflepuff

Thank you HH.

Gesso is what an artist uses to prime a canvas. Most are said to be tripple primed, but a lot arn't - Gesso comes in a tube and if the nap feels ok, one coat. if rough, then three coats.

I see. Thank you for explaining. In my excitement about the painting I forgot to ask how you’re doing now. I hope your breathing has improved somewhat by now.

Thank's HH - Not as bad as it was - It was not like a COPD flare, I have dyspnea at times, so probably that.

Sorry Ern haven't been around too much! I moved on the 20th of April to a Ground floor flat near my daughter's! It's been a difficult time before that searching for a new home, packing up and decluttering!

Changing my address etc, getting utilities set up, it was a bit mad, also new GP 👍 For

2 weeks now I have hay fever and a sore throat!

Your painting is so refreshing, love the sky, mountains and the flowers in the grass! ❤️

The pastel colours gives your painting an airy and look! Just beautiful!

I hope you feel much better Ern when you wake up this morning 🙏🥰

Thank you Snowdrops17 - Moving home is number 1 pain in the neck.we are on ground floor floor bungalow in village. Our new GP is super.. You will find ground floor so easy and safe, and you are near your daugter, I am a bit better than you, :-)

Thanks Alberta! Early days... And got no wardrobes to store clothes etc away! Still got boxes in my bigger bedroom 🫣 Also ended up with ants end of last week on my kitchen worktop 😱🐜 and a slimy slug inside near my front door on the carpet, yukky 🥴

Well found the cause in the kitchen on the end of the washing up end! Hole 🕳️ in the wall and cleaned the divider out and inside between the worktop units! It was disgusting! Old food stuck in their! After cleaning everything I applied masking tape 3 long strips and drenched them in tea tree, lemon and peppermint oil! Ants hate that stuff and Peppermint oil is toxic for ants and will kill them 👌 lemon oil confuses ants and tea tree oil, wow, haha, could smell it on Saturday evening before I entered my Ground Floor Flat! So I am praying now I have beaten these little buggers 🐜

But if not I shall notify my letting agent asap 👌

There are still a few issues which need to be dealt with like my front door having a gap and the weather strips are rubbish... So threshold needs to be raised, otherwise more creepy crawlies will enter!

I left my 1 bedroom house clean and tidy! Sadly people don't bother to clean up behind them, when they leave! So literally had to start cleaning again Alberta! It's exhausting!

But my other Letting Agent was so very pleased with my clean 1 bedroom house 🏡 that I received all of my Deposit back I paid 2009 😁💰👌 So it's totally worth the effort 👍

My Ex-husband was with the British Army!

I was married from 1981 - 2004 !

Every time we had to move to a different location either Germany or UK it was compulsory to clean your house and cooker for the next Army family to move in! I just couldn't move out and leave any house or flat uncleaned! It wouldn't be fair and it is hard when you find others didn't care as much 👍❤️

Alberta56 profile image
Alberta56 in reply to Snowdrops_17

I hope the ants have got the message. I bought a spray bottle of ant deterrent from Kleenezie or someone which must do much the same as your oils. It seems to work. i don't want to kill them- they are part of the ecosystem after all, if rather an annoying one. I admire your cleaning blitz- I couldn't do it now. Hope it hasn't left you too exhausted. Enjoy your new flat. xxx

Wow, I could glide in that sky; glide, dive and slide!

I'm glad you included the tall blue flowers in the garden, and that central pink one looks so succulent! But why there should be a fence in that wonderful view, only Ern knows! Still, I take it as it is and soak it all up.

Ern007 profile image
Ern007 in reply to Greenthorn

Thank you Greenthorn. It was dow to with - I wanted a housebut, very cramped for room. Had I left if with just the mountain view. it could have looked flat, probably canvas was not large enough.

What do you use? And what do you do with all your lovely pictures. Do you keep them all or recycle them eventally? If you keep them all then where . ? Yours do us all a great deal of pleasure I use paper and watercolour but have so many sitting in garage in carrier bags. Lots have been framed and hung on walls and thats ok until you have to take them all down as i have had to do recently to have room redecorated after my ceiling fell in . That has taken 4 whole months as workmen in short supply , very short supply.

I used to buy frames from charity shops and have lots of those now but there are limits to how many i can put up . I give them away too. I am old but I am conscious that someone will have to get rid of them one day. Do I throw them away ? Or what.? Havent got time a t present as trying to put things back where they belong bc ( before ceiling ).

Anyway keep on painting for us I really liked your Hockney painting best of all. Can we have more and if

but if you havent tried watercolour then try it . Different technique but less expensive too .

Ern007 profile image
Ern007 in reply to Jaybird19

Hi Jaybird. Thank you for your very kind comments.

Let me answer about watercour paintings first. I used to paint watercolour about 26 years ago, how I know that we were expecting a baby late in life, Victoria. I was working but wages not really good enough for a family so I started work at a Garden Center - long hours which meant I could not paint

When I retired we took some unwanted DVDs to charity shop. My wife spotted a new pack of soft pastels and she bought them for me.

So I tried the pastels really nice colours but, messy, dust everywhere.

That wakened me, I did two more watercolour one a Red Lady, and the other a fire which I turned into abstract.

So now I paint with acrylics on canvas, water soluble but very different to watercolour, they soon dry out and tequnique is quite different.

"What did I do with my paintings"? - I give them when people ask, and we hang some, I have three I like on wall next to my bed.

The odd times I have sold one or two and for not much money because I am not a commercial artist, and am retired anyway.

Should you get rid of your paintings Jaybird - If you don't want to then don't - I have he odd time recycled a canvas be gessoing and using again, but not often.

Lastly I hope your repairs have been done, and do you still paint? I stored my watercolour best ones in a box and every one deteriated, One The Red Lady was my favourite.

I love the impressionists but your paintings remind me of a Canadian folk artist Maudie ( can’t remember her last name ) but there is a biographical film “Maudie” on Netflix staring Sally Hawkins and Ethan Hawk . It’s a lovely , interesting, amazing story , one of the best films I’ve seen , I’d recommend it to anyone.
