Saw respiratory consultant today, for results of ct scan etc. Apparently I have an upper lobe cavity in the left lung. This has increased since last scan a year ago. She feels it may have bacteria lurking within , combined with the scarring this is causing the chronic bleeding. As cipro had a better result than other antibiotics she is querying pseudomonas. They have reconsidered a bronchoscopy as she is concerned that the bacteria will be flushed throughout lung and cause sepsis, she feels due to my weak state my body wouldn’t cope well. The next step is that they want to consult Professor Loebinger at Brompton and be guided by him.
Bloods were okay, sputum showed up a fungus but not heavy growth.
Fev1 is 1.1. Fvc 1.5
So that’s about it for now, will just carry on as we all do one day at a time.
Thank you all for your kind words and support .
Take care and best wishes to all lung chums.

At least they will be acting on the advice of a specialised person. Your own consultant has shown that he or she is doing everything possible to help you. That must be reassuring astragal. Don't forget, we are all in the same lung boat together. Some worse than others but supportive always. Keep us informed of your next visit. Take care and keep up your spirits. Chrys
It is reassuring that this consultant is being more proactive and is working alongside the Brompton. Yes, indeed definitely avoiding crowds, I tend to hibernate with my tv and laptop. Take care.
Well astragal, you show a bleeding lot of resolve if you will excuse my expression dealing with all life has thrown at you,so i hope your professor in the temple of lung excellence at the Brompton comes up with the goodies and makes life a little easier for you .
Thank you both for your kind words. I am very grateful that Professor Loebinger agreed to see me. Hopefully they will work something out, anything that makes life easier I am all for. Take care and best wishes.
Thank you Anita . Yes these guys at the Brompton are apparently some of the best. Hopefully when I get in there I won’t be so overwhelmed I just forget everything and sit staring. I will write questions and comments down so I can just hand it over if my mouth fails to represent me. Take care and best wishes.
Hi Astragal your consultant is right about holding of the bronchoscope for now anyway. I had a terrible experience with haemoptysis for a fortnight after my last bronchoscope to remove a blockage in the lung and ended up being hospitalised for ten days before it started to settle. Thankfully nothing sinister was found in the blockage but I have been left extremely breathless as a result of the bronchiectasis and the lungs recovering from the trauma . Look after yourself x
Sorry you had such a horrible experience. Thank goodness there was nothing sinister there. I hope your lungs continue to recover after all that. Take care and best wishes.
