Breathing easy/hard

I am 5 weeks into antibiotics 3 times a week until at least next summer. I had continuous infections and coughed lots of crap up. I am now feeling reasonable but I worry that I seem to have stopped coughing and my chest feels tight. I do breathing exercises and my wife helps but nothing seems to produce mucus.

Has anyone had this situation its like all has gone quiet and waiting in the wings to erupt again.

Hope everyone is doing as well as possible we should all get together for a big xmas party.

If you have not been prescribed Carbocistiene to thin your mucus then you can try this.

Carbocysteine really helps me..

I use a nebuliser daily. This really helps.

My diagnosis is Lupus and NSIP - lungs

Since starting to take Azithromycin 13 months ago, 3 times a week I have been producing very little mucus which I’ve taken as a sign that I don’t have any infection .

Similar to uou. Have been on Azithromycin for about 4 months and mucous has cleared almost totally. Only a little when I use the saline nebuliser. Only problem, is that they have found two additional infection which have no reaction to penicillin namely enterobacter and pseudomanas Awaiting on the NHS to pull its finger out and get me on nebuliser antibiotics.

pseudomonas is the Bain of my life I have had it lurking for ages and when it flares up its horrible. My understanding is that taking Azithromycin 3 times a week helps to ensure bacterial infection is kept to a minimum as pseudomonas infection lives within us and as soon as it can get to an area where it can grow it does so, The infections produce an ideal world for the growth of pseudomona, I was told penicillin wont help. Thanks for your inf and to all those who responded to my post.

Hi sadly have not found specific breathing exercises as such that deal with my mucous issue but with perseverance I fund regular huffing exercises along with the use of a flutter machine or acapella do get to the mucous which is interfering with my airways - there are good sites from hospital physio depts. that guide you through the huffing regime - good luck I know how miserable it is

I do use a flutter machine and I find it useful but at the moment it doesn't seem to have an effect Thanks for your reply

I was prescribed Carbocistiene Capsuls to make Mucus thinner and easier to cough up. I have Bronchiectasis . It started with me coughing up blood but I now take Azithromyacin 3 times a week. However I have episodes of gasping for breath and rushed to hospital several times and feels like there is something stuck in my throat and think I'm going to die, Not a very nice experience but now being investigated E.N.T and Lung Departments at hospital.
